Greyhounds stung by the Sting … again
Daniel Lombardi's goal at the 12:11 mark of the third period on the power-play proved to be the winner, giving the Sting a 5-4 victory over the Soo Greyhounds.
The win becomes Sarnia's second over the Soo.
Early in the game, Chad Painchaud was denied on a penalty-shot attempt at the 6:43 mark of the first period when Kyle Gajewski would put his glove on an attempted deke attempt by the Sarnia forward to keep the game scoreless.
The lone goal of the opening period would take place at the 18:35 mark when Rich Clune converted on a Scott Restoule and Chris Chimienti play to give the Sting a 1-0 lead heading into the dressing room after 20 minutes.
Then it was time for a scoring frenzy in the second period where 7 players would hit the back of the net.
Cody Thornton with two, Andrew Desjardins, Jason Pitton tallied for the Hounds while Tomas Pospisil, Chad Painchaud, Daniel Lombardi replied for the Sting.
The Lombardi goal was involved in a lengthy discussion as referee Sean Reid would originally call in no goal and assess the Hounds a penalty after talking with his linesman.
From there the official went to the Sting bench, to the goal judge and then completely overturned his call to the dismay to the Hounds coaching staff.
None-the-less, the Hounds were able to end the second period with a 4-4 tie with the Sting.
Both teams would not be able to convert on two-man advantages of their own in the third while the Sting grabbed the winning goal.
Tyler Kennedy was named the second star of the game after recording three assists.
