Coach Hartsburg, Kennedy make Hounds Proud at Team Canada Camp
With the Team Canada World Junior summer evaluation camp wrapping up in Whistler, B.C. yesterday the Soo Greyhounds two most recgognizable faces will return to Sault Ste. Marie today.
Head Coach Craig Hartsburg, and Centre Tyler Kennedy both attended the camp, Hartsburg as an assitant coach for the club, and Kennedy as a potential Team Canada superstar come the World Junior Tournament in December. The camp was held in Whistler in an effort to provide an orientation into the Canadian World Junior program and give the players an opportunity to state their case to team amangement, who will select the team following an additional training camp in early December. The prestigous World Junior tournament will be held in Vancouver and Kamploops beginning on December 26th.
For Hartsburg, this will be his first taste of international competition as a coach, following a playing career which saw him represent Canada at many events inclluding the 1977 World Junior Tournament, 1981 Canada Cup, and the 1987 Canada Cup. Hartsburg will act as the assitant to Head Coach Brent Sutter, who led the 2005 World Junior team, starring Soo Greyhound superstar Jeff Carter to a gold medal, in Grand Forks, N.D.
Should Kennedy's play through the regular season, and at the Decmber training camp warrant him a spot on the club, it would be the 19 year old first taste of international competition. The conclusion of the summer evaluation camp does not mean Kennedy can take a breather, as in addition to the opening of Greyhound training camp on August 31st, Kennedy will be attending Pittsburgh Penguins training camp at aroudn the same time. The Penguins selected Kennedy with their 4th round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
The Hounds are exteremly proud of both Tyler, and Coach Hartsburg, and would like to thank them for representing the Soo Greyhounds organization and the city of Sault Ste. Marie in such a professional manner.
