Attack take series lead over Hounds
Story by Peter Ruicci (Sault Star)
It may not be a must-win situation, but it’s about as close as you can get.
Following a 6-2 loss in Owen Sound on Monday, the Soo Greyhounds face a critical Game 4 on the road on Wednesday.
The Hounds trail the Attack 2-1 in the best-of-seven, Western Conference semifinal.
“They’re all must win,” Hounds head coach Drew Bannister said, when asked if ‘must win’ described the level of importance of Wednesday’s 7 p.m. contest. “We have to win in their rink.”
“We’re in the same boat we were in going into Game 2,” added centre Hayden Verbeek, whose team lost the series opener at home before bouncing back with a 5-4 overtime victory last Friday. “Down 3-1 is a hard spot to be in.”
But that’s what the Hounds are facing if they can’t rebound from a sub-par performance at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
“We’re still getting out-competed,” added Verbeek, whose team certainly failed to win its share of pucks. “We didn’t play our game tonight (Monday).”
“They’re willing to work to get goals and you don’t see that from our guys,” added Bannister, whose club surrendered four unanswered goals after scoring to tie the game 2-2.
