Seny sparks Soo past IceDogs

Zach Senyshyn is officially on a hot streak.
And his play of late has helped the Soo Greyhounds sizzle.
The Hounds winger scored three times on Thursday — giving him seven in his last two games — to pace the Soo to win No. 10 in a row.
The Hounds scored three unanswered goals to stop the Niagara IceDogs 7-4, before 4,767 at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines.
“A lot of hard work is paying off and yeah, I feel like I’m in a groove,” said Senyshyn, who scored four times, including the overtime winner, in Saturday’s 4-3 victory over Barrie at Essar Centre. “Sometimes, the pucks go in.”
“He’s really hot,” overage winger Bobby MacIntyre said of Senyshyn, who also added an assist for a four-point night. “He’s an exciting player to watch and an exciting player to play with.”
The victory boosted the Greyhounds record to 21-7-1-0 – including 14-2-0-0 on the road — heading into a Saturday (7 p.m.) clash in Erie.
The road trip concludes Sunday (2 p.m.) in Hamilton, for a team that continues to lead second-place Windsor (18-5-4-0) by three points in the race for top spot in the OHL’s West Division.
The Spits have two games in hand.
Asked about his team’s ability to overwhelm opponents, Senyshyn spoke of how “when we’re skating and when we’re playing Hounds hockey, it’s really hard for other teams to keep up with us.”
“We’re dangerous,” agreed centre Morgan Frost, a standout on Thursday with two goals and two assists. “Our offensive ability is pretty hard to stop.”
With the score tied 4-4 midway through the final period, the Hounds connected twice in 30 seconds to open a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Frost redirected a Mac Hollowell shot past IceDogs netminder Stephen Dhillon at 10:06, before Senyshyn’s one-timer from the slot gave his team a two-goal cushion at 10:36.
The back-to-back Greyhounds goals came after Niagara had erased a 4-2 deficit with two goals in a 35-second span early in the final period.
“There was no panic,” MacIntyre said of the Hounds reaction to finding themselves tied. “We remained calm. The big thing for us is no matter the score, We always think we can win the game.”
“We don’t get flustered,” Frost added. “We’re able to regain focus and we have the confidence to beat anybody.”
And Senyshyn, an Ottawa native, wasn’t done. He redirected a Colton White shot for his 16th goal at 13:26 to complete the scoring.
“He certainly made the most of his opportunities,” said Hounds head coach Drew Bannister. “It’s nice to see him scoring in different ways. He was rewarded by getting pucks to the net.”

The Hounds will take Friday to travel to Erie, Pennsylvania in preparation of Saturday’s (Dec. 10) contest against the Erie Otters.
Game time from the Erie Insurance Arena is 7 PM and fans can hear all the action starting with the Pre-Game Show on Rock 101 (101.3 FM, LISTEN LIVE) starting at 6:30 PM.
This game will conclude the season series with the Otters, after the Hounds defeated their Conference opponent 6-3 last month in Sault Ste. Marie.
