Sandin joins Greyhounds
Originally selected in the 1st Round of the 2017 CHL Import Draft, RASMUS SANDIN will now be joining the Soo Greyhounds.
GM Kyle Raftis officially made the announcement earlier this morning that the 17-year old defenceman is expected to arrive in the Lock City later today.
“This is something we have been working towards for some time now. We are very excited to have a resolution and add a player of Sandins calibre to our group. As an extremely intelligent puck moving defensemen it will be a great boost to our blueline moving forward” stated Raftis.
Sandin, from Uppsala Sweden, started the 2017-18 season by playing professional hockey or Rogle BK in the Swedish Hockey League where he had 1 assist in five games played.
“We would rather have seen Rasmus playing with us, of course, but we can not guarantee him the playing time he wants. The player has had a wish to play in Soo Greyhounds” said Rögel’s sports director Anders “Masken” Carlsson in a statement on the team’s website.
“Rasmus belongs to Rögle for another season and will join the squad right after the end of the season in North America” he added.
One year ago, Rasmus played This past season (2016-17), Sandin played in 36 games for Brynas IF J20 of the SuperElit league compiling 3 goals and 15 assists, good for 18 points.
He was also a member of the gold-medal winning Team Sweden at the 2016 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge where he notched 2 assists in 6 games played.
The newest Greyhound expressed his excitment in the Rogle release as well.
“It has been awesome to test games in SHL and measure against seniors, but I have had the desire to play in CHL for a long time and am glad that Rögle and Soo can agree. I look forward to developing even more” said Sandin.
Sandin is expected to make his Greyhounds debut this coming Friday, October 20th when the club hosts the Kingston Frontenacs.
