Raftis talks draft, future, player potential
Story by Peter Ruicci (Sault Star)
Stage 1 of the Ontario Hockey League draft wrapped up Saturday afternoon.
Over two days and 15 rounds, the Soo Greyhounds selected seven wingers, two centres and six defencemen. The group included first-round pick Justin Cloutier, second-rounder Marco Mignosa, third-rounder Ethan Montroy and Wawa, Ont., native Austin Fellinger, an 11th-rounder who now calls the Sault home.
Next comes Stage 2, when Hounds general manager Kyle Raftis begins to sell the benefits of playing for the team, specifically to two American-born skaters who were chosen Saturday.
“Both would have gone earlier” had they not been natives of the United States, said Raftis, who took smooth-skating centre Charlie Lewinski from the Detroit Compuware 15s in the seventh round and defenceman Noah Ziskie, who skated for the Oakland Jr. Grizzles 15U club, in the 10th. Both were born in 2005.
