Nichols signs SPA with Hounds
The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club is proud to announce that goaltender JUSTIN NICHOLS has been signed to a Standard Player Agreement in preparation for the 2012/13 season.
“We are thrilled today that Justin has committed to our program. Obviously, Justin had plenty of options and we are excited that given all of interest in him that he elected to commit to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds” began GM Kyle Dubas.
“Justin is a technically sound goaltender, who is very athletic and is extremely intelligent. That combination of skill and his quickness allows him to read and react to the play and be in great position the majority of the time.”
Nichols was selected by the Hounds with their 2nd pick of the third round during the 2011 OHL Priority Selection presented by StateFarm.
This past season the St. Catharine’s ON native played at the prestigious Salisbury Academy Prep School where he started 20 of the 28 games for the club.
Off the ice, Nichols received Second Honours for his acadmic performance.
“I am extremely excited about joining the Greyhounds organization . Obviously I feel it is a team that’s on the up and I want to be a part that, for sure. It’s a great step hockey wise for me, but also a great step to develop as a person” stated Nichols.
The 5’9”, 150-lb netminder will not be in attendance at the team’s upcoming Development Camp but is expected at the Hounds main training camp at the end of August.
“We do recognize that it will be an adjustment for Justin and we feel as though there is no goaltender better suited to partner with Justin and show him what it will take to reach his potential than Matt Murray” continued Dubas.
“We expect Matt and Justin to push one another throughout the season and cultivate a relationship that will allow both to maximize their potential during their time with our program.”
The Hounds will hold their Spring Development Camp in just over a week – May 4th to 6th – at the John Rhodes Community Centre. Further information can be found on soogreyhounds.com
