They could have been winners.
Maybe even significant winners.
Which makes the Soo Greyhounds, in a season erased by the COVID-19 pandemic, among the Ontario Hockey League’s biggest losers.
They lost a chance to return with a squad minus only two members of the 2019-2020 entry.
They lost a chance to see how much another year of maturity would have benefitted the likes of promising players Ryan O’Rourke, Rory Kerins, Tanner Dickinson, Jaromir Pytlik, Nick Malik and Jacob Holmes.
They lost a chance to see if rookie centre Bryce McConnell-Barker, taken fourth overall in the 2020 Priority Selections draft, is as OHL-ready as they believe he is.
And they lost a chance to be the host team for Major A hockey’s crown event, the Memorial Cup.
