Their road winning streak has been snapped.
After starting the season with six consecutive wins on the road, the Soo Greyhounds trailed by a 2-0 count and were unable to ever take the lead before losing in Windsor on Thursday Night.
A turnover just thirty-seconds, resulting in a shot off the post by Cristiano DiGiacino, preluded the first half of the slow start for the Hounds.
And a span of just under two minutes would account for the only offense in the first period.
Aaron Luckuk redirected a Jalen Chatfield point shot past Joseph Raaymakers at 6:40, and despite a review opened, the scoring 1-0 Windsor.
Windsor would then connect on their second powerplay of the period, to take a 2-0 lead.
Cristiano DiGiacinto tipped a Sean Day point shot through at 8:22 for the two goal cushion.
The Hounds would notch their first shot on goal around the midway point of the period and despite a pair of latter powerplays were unable to get on the board while trailing 2-0 after the first period.
Coming out to start the second with purpose and possession the Greyhounds created early scoring chances from the trio of DAVID MILLER, JACK KOPACKA and ZACH SENYSHYN.
TIM GETTINGER would put the Hounds on the board, and cut into Windsor’s lead 5:49 into the second. Being on the doorstop paid off for the North Olmsted, OH product as he swiped the puck past DiPietro for his 4th goal of the year.
And after Joseph Raaymakers would stop Cole Carter on a breakaway, the Hounds would reward their netminder with a tie game.
While on the powerplay, BOBBY MACINTYRE fed a cross ice pass to MORGAN FROST who’s little hesitation sent the puck quickly home for his 5th goal of the year and a tied 2-2 game.
The tie game lasted just 39 seconds before Gabriel Villardi was dropped the puck and wristed it past Raaymakers for a 3-2 lead.
Windsor’s third powerplay of the night was shut down late in the period, as the Hounds trailed 3-2 after forty minutes.
While the Hounds held Windsor to just two shots in the opening ten minutes of the third, one would regain the Spitfires lead, and it came in quick fashion.
Just fifty-three seconds into the period, a pass from the Hounds defence behind the net was put right onto the stick of Logan Brown who wouldn’t mistake in regaining Windsor’s two goal lead.
Limited to just four shots all period themselves, the Hounds would surrender an empty net goal in the final minute of the third period after a neutral zone turnover saw Jeremiah Addison net the fifth and final goal of the night.
WIth the loss the Hounds record dropped to 8-5-1-0 on the season, remaining at 17 points
