Hounds receive commitment from Travis Hayes
Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis announced this morning the commitment of the second member from this year’s (2023) OHL Priority Selection.
Second-round selection Travis Hayes has committed to a Standard Player Agreement and Education Package with the Program.
“We are very excited to add Travis to our forward group. He’s someone who has developed progressively throughout the season, demonstrating a skillset that’s tough to teach a young player” started Raftis.
“Travis is a player that plays every shift with tenacity. Being a fiery competitor, he has a knack for finding space in the offensive zone. Often getting to the right place at the right time allows him create offense and get an elite level shot off. With this skillset, it is only a matter of time before you see his name consistently on the score sheet.
We cant wait to partner with Travis in his on and off ice development as he forges his own path in the OHL as a Soo Greyhound” concluded the Hounds General Manager.
The 5.11, 153-lb forward was selected 25th overall in this past April’s OHL Priority Selection.
In 2022-23, the native of Westland MI had a team-leading 34 goals and 32 assists (66 points) in 63 games played for the Detroit Compuware 15s of the HPHL15.
“I’m so honoured to be signing with such a great organization. Thank-you to all of the people that have helped me get to the point where I am today. I’d like to thank my Parents for supporting me and spending countless hours taking me to games, practices and workouts – my brothers for pushing me on and off the ice to become a better player and my coaches this past year for taking the time to teach me new things and make better player and person” said Hayes.
The third-generation member of the Hayes family to pursue an OHL career ended with, ‘I’m looking forward to meeting all of the guys, playing in front of great fans and wearing Red and White.’
He now officially follows his older brothers Avery (PBO) and Gavin (FLNT) into the league.
Travis will be among those attending the Greyhounds Main Training Camp later this summer, scheduled for the final week of August.
