Dubchak, Schwindt committ for 2012-13
After four years with the Soo Greyhounds, CARSON DUBCHAK has a new hockey home following his Major Junior career.
The Kenora, ON product has been recruited by Lakehead Univesity (Thunderwolves) in Thunder Bay, ON for the upcoming 2012-12 hockey and academic season.
“As an organization, we are very excited that Carson has elected to use his Ontario Hockey League education package and complete his degree, while playing hockey for the great program at Lakehead University. Carson joins a long line of former Hounds who have used their education packages to complete their degree at Lakehead including Jordan Smith, Michael Quesnele, Jake Carrick and Matt Caria” began Hounds GM Kyle Dubas.
Dubchak, who was the captain of the Hounds this past season, appeared in 239 regular season games for the Hounds accumulating 53 goals and 61 assists (good for 114 points) to go along with 307 penalty minutes.
“Carson played with tremendous passion and grit over his 4 seasons in Sault Ste. Marie. There is no doubt that those same attributes will make him a very valuable member of the Lakehead University campus” said Dubas.
Meanwhile fellow overage MICHAEL SCHWINDT will combine hockey & education following a four-year OHL career of his own.
The Mount Forest, ON product has committed to the University of Guelph (Gryphons) for the upcoming season where he will study business.
“Mike Schwindt played very difficult minutes for our club this season opposing the top lines of our competition, protecting leads late in games, blocking shots, and being a key member of our penalty kill. I am very excited for Mike that he will be enrolling at the University of Guelph and using his Ontario Hockey League education package to fund the completion of his degree while playing for the University of Guelph Men’s Hockey program. Mike will join former Greyhound Matthew Lyall, who has been a key member of the Gryphon’s Hockey club while using his education package to finish a degree he started while playing for our club” continued Dubas.
After playing three season’s with the Eastern Conference Niagara IceDogs, Schwindt joined the Hounds in June of 2011 and played in 67 games this past season, and 250 over the course of his OHL career.
“Mike is a terrific young man who was a joy to have around the rink this past season. I am thrilled that he is going to get his degree in business while continuing to pursue his hockey dreams at the University of Guelph” concluded the Hounds GM.
Congratulations to both Carson & Michael as they move on in their academic and athletic endeavours.
