A different “Red and White”
For Soo Greyhounds CONOR TIMMINS and BORIS KATCHOUK, the dream has become a reality.
The pair of Hounds were among twenty-two (22) players named to the Team Canada roster for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo, NY.
Tournament games will be held at both the KeyBank Center and HarborCenter.
And while Team Canada officials didn’t have to name it’s roster until Christmas afternoon, Head Coach Dominique Ducharme and his staff chose to do so following a victory (5-2) over Team Denmark on Friday by making the final five cuts.
It was an anxious moment that ultimately brought excitement and honour to the duo of Hounds, our organization and community.
For both Timmins and Katchouk this will mark their first World Junior Hockey Championship.
The third-year Greyhounds both attended the World Junior Summershowcase in Plymouth, MI in August while attending Hockey Canada’s Summer showcase the month prior (July).
Now they will step onto the big stage representing a different red and white.
They left the Greyhounds for the selection camp on Monday sitting 2nd (Katchouk; 27-18-45) and 3rd (Timmins; 6-28-34) in team scoring.
Katchouk’s 27 goals is second among all OHL scorers, while Timmins is 5th for all OHL defenceman.
Now as part of Team Canada the pair will look to guide Canada past last year’s heartbreaking 5-4 loss in the gold medal game to Team USA.
