Hounds bark louder than the Wolves, as pre-season action resumes
Backstopped by a 26 save performance by Landon Miller and paced by five different goal scorers, the Soo Greyhounds dropped their Northern rivals the Sudbury Wolves 5-3 on Wednesday Night.
The win in the Nickel City improved the Hounds pre-season record to 1-1-0-0.
Jordan D’Intino opened the scoring with his 1st goal of the pre-season with a mere second remaining on a powerplay at 2:24 of the first period, beating Wolves starting netminder Drew Gaulton.
Over eleven minutes later (13:28), Justin Cloutier gave the visitors a 2-0 lead thanks to a goal assisted by Julian Fantino and Jordan D’Iintino.
A melee with forty-seconds left in the first period saw a trio of players ejected from both sides as the Hounds lost the services of Jordan D’Intino, Julian Fantino and Alex Kostov, while the Wolves would without Chase Coughlan, Landon McCallum and Nathan Villeneuve for the rest of the night.
Sudbury would get on the board before the midway point of the second period when Sooite Devin Mauro netted his second goal of exhibition play to cut the Greyhounds lead in half.
Tate Vader then quickly regained the Hounds a two goal cushion less than tow minutes later (3-1) before an Ethan Larmand goal again cut the Soo lead to 3-2 as the game entered the second intermission.
Before the third period was ten minutes old a pair of Greyhound goals made it a 5-2 game as Brady Martin and Christopher Brown beat Nate Krawchuk, now between the pipes for Sudbury.
A late powerplay goal by the Wolves (Jakub Chromiak) rounded out the scoring in the Greyhounds victory.
Tate Vader, Jordan D’Intino and Brady Martin each ended the night with 2 point nights (1G, 1A) to lead the Soo.
The Greyhounds outshot the Wolves 33-20 while each team recorded a pair of powerplay goals (Soo 2-for-7, Wolves 2-for-4).
