Bulldogs Excited for 2021 OHL Draft Challenge
Following the OHL Priority Selection Draft Lottery and the Bulldogs winning the 14th overall selection, the organization is excited for the challenge of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection Draft in unprecedented circumstances.
Bulldogs’ President & General Manager Steve Staios said “We’re excited! I think this draft is going to be a very unique one…excited about our 14th overall pick, we feel like we’re going to get a good player”.
If the trend holds for both the Bulldogs and the 14th overall selection, Hamilton fans should be very excited. Whoever the Bulldogs feel is the right fit with the 14th overall selection will join a deep roster featuring the team’s 1st round selections in 2018, Logan Morrison (18th overall), 2019, Ryan Winterton (8th overall) & 2020, Jorian Donovan (6th overall).
Over the past 5 years the 14th overall selection in the Priority Selection Draft has been a star-studded selection. In 2015, the Owen Sound Attack would use the 14th pick on future OHL Champion, World Junior Gold Medalist & current Montreal Canadiens star Nick Suzuki. In 2016, the Barrie Colts would select future St. Louis Blues draft pick Tyler Tucker with the 14th overall pick. 2017 would see the Mississauga Steelheads select a future World Junior Silver Medalist & Dallas Stars 1st rounder in towering defenseman Thomas Harley at 14. In 2018, the London Knights would use the 14th pick on future Nashville Predators 2nd round selection Luke Evangelista while in 2019 the Guelph Storm would select center Danny Zhilkin, who is currently teammates with Bulldogs’ 2019 1st rounder Ryan Winterton for Team Canada at the U18 World Championships.
The Bulldogs will announce their 14th overall pick on Friday, June 4th as the 2021 OHL Priority Selection Draft presented by Real Canadian Superstore will be split across two days for the first time in the event’s history. Rounds 1 – 3 will commence at 7pm on June 4th, while rounds 4 – 15 will continue at 9am on Saturday, June 5th.
In addition to the 14th overall selecton, the Bulldogs also hold the #43 & #53 selections in the 3rd round which will make for a fun Friday night for Hamilton hockey fans!
