WINTERTON NAMED TO U-17 WORLD HOCKEY CHALLENGE ROSTER
Hockey Canada has announced their roster for the 2019 U-17 World Hockey Challenge which includes Hamilton Bulldogs rookie right-winger, Ryan Winterton.
Winterton, the product of Whitby, Ontario was selected by the Hamilton Bulldogs in the 1st round, 8th overall, in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection Draft from the Whitby Wildcats Minor Midget AAA program where Winterton was a standout. Finishing his 2018-19 season with the Wildcats accumulating 38 goals & 34 assists for 72 points across 36 games in the regular season following with 3 goals & assists for 6 points in 7 playoff games and capping the year off with 2 goals & 3 assists for 5 points in 4 games at the OHL Cup.
To open his OHL career, Winterton has been impressive showing a willingness to play a physical brand of hockey even as a 16-year old rookie learning the OHL game. Winterton has amassed 2 goals along with an assist through 9 games played to date and has earned himself roles on both the power-play and penalty kill units, showing the trust the Bulldogs coaching staff already has in the exciting young talent.
In being selected to Team Canada for the U17 World Hockey Challenge, Winterton follows in the footsteps of Hamilton Bulldogs alumni like Matt Strome, Mackenzie Entwistle and Robert Thomas, as well as current teammates Nathan Staios, Michael Renwick and Logan Morrison (who was selected but did not play due to injury).
This is a monumental step for Winterton’s development as he works towards his eventual goals in the game and the Hamilton Bulldogs are very proud of his hard work and dedication to earn his selection to represent Team Canada.
