Westland Insurance Community Players of the Month: The Brantford Bulldogs
For the first time this season the Brantford Bulldogs are proud to name their Westland Insurance Community Player of the Month…the entire Brantford Bulldogs team.
On September 22nd, the Bulldogs made their first trip to the Six Nations of the Grand River, hosting a pre-season game at the Six Nations Sports Complex in Ohsweken. Prior to the game, the team was led in a special educational session led by Cheryl M. Henhawk, Director of Recreation for the Six Nations of the Grand River making this trip about far more than a hockey game. The team were eager to learn the history & traditions of the indigenous people of the region while working to create a deep bond with their gracious hosts.
Bulldogs Coach Jay McKee and team captain Lawson Sherk presented the council of the Six Nations a team-signed jersey to serve as a symbol of unity, respect & the Bulldogs’ commitment to building bridges with the indigenous community.
Prior to puck drop, a ceremony was held on the ice where a significant donation of $5,445 was presented to former Bulldogs player, Brenden Anderson, by General Manager, Matt Turek for the Six Nations PALS Program. The PALS (Police Athletic League for Students) run through the Six Nations Police Service is an initiative that aims to build better relationships between police and youth through sports and recreation.
Underlining the importance of unity, respect and cultural awareness in sports, the Brantford Bulldogs are extremely proud of the entire team for their dedication to building a deep and lasting relationship with the Six Nations Community and extremely grateful to the Six Nations Council for hosting a wonderful and enriching day.
