BULLDOGS OPEN HOME AND HOME SERIES WITH GUELPH WITH A 5-3 LOSS
Not the start to the second half of the season the Bulldogs were hoping for Friday night as they fell behind early and lost 5-3 to the Storm in Guelph.
After a couple of great chances for new Bulldog Tag Bertuzzi on the opening shift, the Storm opened the scoring at 1:33. However, less than two minutes later Logan Morrison (2) tied things up for the Bulldogs at 1-1 only to see Guelph score three more before the end of the period to take a 4-1 lead.
The Bulldogs were much improved in the 2nd period as Brandon Saigeon (23) swung the momentum in Hamilton’s favour with a short-handed marker, followed by a late goal from Isaac Nurse (5) to cut the Storm lead to 4-3.
Hamilton out-shot Guelph 12-6 in the 3rd period, but any hopes of completing the comeback ended as the Storm took advantage of a 5-minute head checking major penalty to Navrin Mutter by scoring an insurance goal on the power-play to make the final 5-3.
The Bulldogs outshot the Storm 40-32.
With the loss, Hamilton’s season record drops to 15-18-2-0 while Guelph’s improves to 18-9-3-4.
Guelph goal scorers were Liam Hawel (18, 19), Jack Hanley (3), Pavel Gogolev (9), and Alexey Toropchenko (8).
3 STARS:
1) Anthony Popovich (GUE) 2) Liam Hawel (GUE) 3) Isaac Nurse (HAM)
The Bulldogs will look for redemption tomorrow when they take on the Guelph Storm in the second half of the home-and-home series at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton at 4 pm.
