A BIG 3rd PERIOD LEADS THE BULLDOGS TO A 7-2 WIN OVER THE PETERBOROUGH PETES
The Hamilton Bulldogs kicked off their 2018 schedule Wednesday night with a 7-2 win over the visiting Peterborough Petes.
After giving up the opening goal in the last two games, the Bulldogs were determined to have a better start and Will Bitten (13) gave them an early 1-0 lead at 4:37. The Petes responded just 13-seconds later to the tie the game 1-1 only to see Hamilton strike twice to take a 3-1 lead after the opening period with goals from Matthew Strome (22) and Mackenzie Entwistle (5).
After a somewhat freewheeling 1st period, the two teams settled down and concentrated on defense in a scoreless 2nd period.
The Petes gave the Bulldogs a scare early in the 3rd period with a power-play goal at the 38-second mark to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Black and Gold scored four un-answered goals to run away with the 7-2 win. Strome (23), Isaac Nurse (8, 9) and Arthur Kaliyev (16) finished up the scoring.
Hamilton out-shot Peterborough 36-28.
The Peterborough goal scorers were Nikita Korostelev (16) and Zach Gallant (9).
