Weekend Recap: February 14, 2022
The Ottawa 67’s weren’t able to find a win in their weekend set, despite salvaging one of four points on home ice. Ottawa fell 4-1 in Peterborough, before dropping a hard-fought 4-3 shootout decision to the Oshawa Generals, and losing the finale 5-0 to the Mississauga Steelheads.

Ottawa 67’s: 1 at Peterborough Petes: 4
The Barber Poles fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but a second-period powerplay allowed them to fight back into the game. Like he had just a game before, Vinzenz Rohrer made a cross-ice pass with laser-like precision, and connected with Luca Pinelli. The rookie made no mistake for his ninth of the season, and cut the Petes’ lead to 2-1.
Ottawa fought hard in the third, but the Petes found two more to put the game away, and send the 67’s home with a road loss.
Despite the tough defeat on the scoreboard, head coach Dave Cameron was happy with his team’s effort.

Oshawa Generals: 4 at Ottawa 67’s: 3 (Shootout)
In another comeback effort, the 67’s came agonizingly close to pulling off the win.
Oshawa scored early, with a powerplay marker, and sent Ottawa to the second period down 1-0.
Awarded a penalty shot just 53 seconds into the middle frame, Rohrer snapped a quick shot home on his first career attempt, tying the game at 1-1. Still, the Generals reclaimed their lead with two more, going ahead 3-1.
A beautiful effort by Thomas Johnston on a two-on-one chance brought the Barber Poles within one, before the end of the second, and Alex Johnston’s bullet of a shot tied the game in the third, sending the two teams to overtime, tied at 3-3.
Ottawa had a powerplay chance in overtime, and Rohrer opened the shootout with a dazzling goal, but the Gens were one better in the skills competition, and the 67’s settled for a point.
Sunday, February 13, 2022:
Mississauga Steelheads: 5 at Ottawa 67’s: 0
Though the game was closer than indicated — Ottawa hit two posts, and registered 31 shots on goal —the first-place Steelheads made good on their chances, earning a 5-0 victory. Mississauga opened the scoring, 8:48 in, and never looked back.
Though the result was a sour one, Ottawa was bolstered by the return of Jack Beck, who saw his first game action since November 7. At the time of his injury, Beck’s statline was: 11 goals, and six assists, for 17 points, in 12 games played.
