67’s win thriller in front of electric home crowd
The Ottawa 67’s put a thrilling close to their 2024 home schedule on Friday night, walking away with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Peterborough Petes.
Despite being outshot 18-12 in the first period, the Petes drew first blood just over two minutes into the contest. Caden Taylor broke in, and beat Jaeden Nelson through the five-hole, netting the only marker of the period.
A third of the way through the second, the Barber Poles finally broke through the fortress Easton Rye built in the Petes’ goal, with Henry Mews finding twine through a screen on the power play, extending his lead atop the CHL’s power play points leader board.
With the score deadlocked after two, the Barber Poles struck 90 seconds into the final stanza, taking the lead on an opportunistic chance from Jack Dever. They couldn’t hold onto their one-goal advantage, however, and the Petes drew back level on a partial break by Ryder McIntyre, who slid it under Nelson’s pad.
Yet another game between these two storied rivals required extra time to solve, but the Barber Poles clearly had an early bedtime to make, because Will Gerrior ended it just 23 seconds in, jamming home a loose puck at the goalmouth to secure victory.
