67’s fight back to earn point against Petes

The Ottawa 67’s fought their tails off, but couldn’t overcome the Peterborough Petes on their home ice on Thursday night, falling 4-3 in the shootout.

Much of the first period went off without a goal, but the final three minutes got a little bit chaotic at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Quinton Pagé scored the game’s first goal for the hosts, but as time expired – literally – Will Gerrior potted the equalizer to send the teams to the locker room deadlocked at one.

Much like in the first, the offence took a while to get going in the second, and when it did, it was all Petes this time. Youngsters Colin Fitzgerald and Aiden Young put Peterborough up by two late in the frame, meaning the Barber Poles had a lot of work to do in the final 20.

Midway through, Gerrior found twine on his second goal of the game, and two and a half minutes later, Henry Mews tied the game. Still, there was time to find a winner in regulation, but neither team could get it done, and for the second time in a row, these two foes headed to overtime.

The extra time solved nothing, and the teams headed for a shootout. Caden Taylor scored the lone goal in the skills competition, and the Petes claimed their fifth-straight win on home ice.
