GAME RECAP: Wildcats claw their way back to win in shootout
Bathurst picked up a point but not the win Thursday night when the buzzer sounded against Moncton. The Wildcats clawed their way to a win in extra time to finish the night with a 3-2 victory over the home team in shootouts.
Emile Perron and Dylan Andrews scored for the Titan at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre, with Dawson Sharkey picking up the assist.
Goal scorers for the Wildcats were Yoan Loshing (assist from Caleb Desnoyers), Natan Grenier, and Miles Mueller with the shootout winner.
Bathurst scored in the first and third periods, while Moncton scored in the second and final frame to tie the game and force overtime, and shootouts.
Bobby Orr, Louis-Francois Belanger, and Huggan didn’t find the back of the net in their shootout attempts against Wildcats netminder Keegan Warren. Antoine Keller denied Moncton’s Thomas Auger and Desnoyers’ shots, but was unable to stop Mueller, who secured the win for the visitors.
The Titan outshot the Wildcats 45-25 but were unable to score on their sole powerplay chance. Moncton didn’t score on either of the PP opportunities.
Perron was named the First Star of the Game for his two points, while Warren was named second for stopping 43 of 45 shots on goal. Keller earned the third star for stopping 23 of Moncton’s 25 shots.
Bathurst is on the road this weekend when they faceoff against the Cape Breton Eagles Saturday and Sunday at Centre 200.
