BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan opened the 2018-19 QMJHL season Thursday night as they played host to the Moncton Wildcats at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre. Following a 30-minute pre-game ceremony featuring player introductions and the raising of banners for the Maritimes Division, President Cup, and Memorial Cup championships, the Titan and Wildcats went to battle.
After a scoreless first period 19-year-old returning defenceman Keenan MacIsaac one-timed a pass from Felix-Antoine Drolet to open the scoring and notch the first goal of the season. Logan Chisholm added the secondary assist at 10:17. It would remain 1-0 Titan through 40 minutes of play.
The third period as all Wildcats as the visitors scored three unanswered goals. First it was Dylan Seitz with the game-tying goal at 12:46 with the lone helper going to Adam Capannelli. Moncton believed they had scored a couple minutes later however it was immediately waved off and Seitz was sent to the box for goaltender interference. That didn’t stop the visitors as Tristan De Jong gave them the lead with the eventual game-winner not long after that at 14:41. Mika Cyr capped it off with an empty-net tally at 18:18 to give the Wildcats a 3-1 victory.
Titan rookie netminder Andrew MacLeod stopped 36 of the 38 shots he faced in the loss and was named first star of the game. Wildcats forward Elliot Desnoyers was the game’s second star while Felix-Antoine Drolet picked up third star honours.
