Durandeau pushes Mooseheads past Titan with third period tally
HALIFAX, NS – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan concluded their weekend schedule on the road taking on the Halifax Mooseheads at Scotiabank Centre with this being the second meeting between the two. The first meeting was last Wednesday, at the K.-C.-Irving Regional Centre in Bathurst as the Titan topped the Mooseheads 5-3 on the heels of a hat trick from Samuel L’Italien.
However tonight, the Mooseheads were looking for revenge. Highly touted import forward Filip Zadina gave them an early lead in front of the home crowd five minutes into the game with his second of the year. Another of many highly touted players on the Halifax roster, Benoit-Olivier Groulx doubled their lead three minutes later making it 2-0. Zadina found the back of the net a second time at 13:47 making it 3-0 for the home side.
The Titan would climb back in the later stages of the period. A powerplay goal from L’Italien off of an odd bounce to the front of the net kicked off the scoring for the visitors at 15:46. Four minutes later Jeffrey Viel brought them to within one scoring on another bizarre sequence. The score remained 3-2 after one period of play and stayed that way until the third period.
Eight minutes into the final frame Justin Ducharme continued his hot start to the season with his fifth goal of the young season tying the game at three apiece. It took only a minute for Arnaud Durandeau to score the eventual game winner putting the Mooseheads ahead 4-3. That would be the final in this one.
Between the pipes, Reilly Pickard made 29 saves in defeat while Alexis Gravel stopped 22 shots.
