Selection Order for 2017 Draft
BOUCHERVILLE, Monday April 3, 2017 – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the details surrounding the draw which will determine the first five overall choices of the 2017 Annual Draft to be held in Saint John on June 3rd 2017.
For the five bottom teams of the regular season including the two which did not make the playoffs, the order of selection will be determined by a draw which will be supervised by 4 governors that have no stakes in the process. The probability of winning the draw is based on the team’s position in the general standings as follows:
Moncton Wildcats – 18th position | 9 balls | 43% |
Sherbrooke Phoenix – 17th position | 6 balls | 28% |
Rimouski Océanic – 16th position | 3 balls | 14% |
Halifax Mooseheads – 15th position | 2 balls | 10% |
Val-d’Or Foreurs – 14th position | 1 ball | 5% |
After the team which will select during the first rank of the entry draft is determined, all the balls representing the team involved are removed from the draw. This process is repeated each time a team is drawn. However, if the Moncton Wildcats who finished last in the standing are not picked during the first or the second lottery draw, they will automatically be awarded the third draft pick overall. Equally, if according to the process described previously, the team that finished at the last rank is awarded automatically the third draft pick overall, or was selected during the first or the second draw, while the Sherbrooke Phoenix who finished next to last have not yet been selected, then they will be automatically awarded the fourth draft pick overall.
The league will use an electronic lottery machine in order to conduct the draw.
The results will be unveiled live from the Videotron Centre on TVA Sports, Rogers TV and the league’s Facebook page on April 6 at noon ET.
