Our 20’s – Sherbrooke Phoenix
Throughout the summer, the QMJHL will summarize the journey of its 20-year-old players. Today, those of the Sherbrooke Phoenix: Hugo Primeau, Charles-Antoine Beauregard and Hugo Marcil.
Hugo Primeau, centre
The Phoenix’s eighth-round pick in 2020, 148th overall, Primeau leaves Sherbrooke fifth in team history in games played (238) and 15th in points (121). This season, the centre had personal bests of 36 assists and 57 points, and was one goal shy of matching his career high of 22, set in 2023-2024. He will be studying and playing for Concordia University next year.
Charles-Antoine Beauregard, left wing
Beauregard was drafted by the Oceanic in 2020, 50th overall, but never played in Rimouski, being quickly traded to Val-d’Or. After a two-game audition at age 17, he made his place full-time with the Foreurs at age 18, in 2022-2023, and collected 12 points in 53 games. He started the following season in the Collegiate League, with the Cégep de Beauce-Appalaches, before the Phoenix convinced him to join its ranks (34 points in 39 games). However, he has been bothered by injuries this season and has played only 37 games (22 points). Author of 69 points (38-31) in 131 games in the QMJHL, Beauregard will also play for Concordia University next year.
Hugo Marcil, defenceman
Undrafted in the QMJHL, Marcil played in the CCHL before joining the Moncton Wildcats at age 18 in 2022-2023. He moved to the Phoenix in the summer of 2023 and wore the assistant captain’s A during his two seasons in Sherbrooke, which he finished with 13 and 25 points. Not the most offensive, Marcil played smart defensively, was combative and displayed great leadership, both on and off the ice. After a junior career of 56 points (8-48) in 186 games, he will play for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks next season.
