QMJHL CENTRAL SCOUTING TOP 30 RANKINGS
With the Mooseheads holding three of the top 30 picks in June’s QMJHL Entry Draft in Sherbrooke, QC, we took the chance to break down some of the statistics from the 30 top players as ranked by QMJHL Central Scouting.
1) Maxime Comtois – F – Chateauguay –MAAA – 1999-01-08 – 6’0” 176 – Shoots Left
The 15-year-old from Sainte-Martine, QC had an outstanding rookie season with the Quebec Midget AAA champion Chateauguay Grenadiers. Comtois had 23 goals and 33 assists during the regular season to sit fifth in league scoring with 56 points. He led the Jimmy Ferrari Cup Playoff scoring race with 31 points in 16 games as the Grenadiers swept Lac St-Louis in the Finals. Comtois added an impressive 15 points in seven games at the Telus Cup, where he led his team to a silver medal.
2) Antoine Morand – F – Chateauguay – MAAA – 1999-02-18 – 5’9” 156 – Shoots Left
Morand, part of a dynamic rookie duo with Comtois on the Grenadiers, had 18 goals and 37 assists for 55 regular season points. The Mercier, QC native added another 30 points in the Jimmy Ferrari Cup Playoffs, 11 points at the Telus Cup and six points in the Gatorade Excellence Challenge.
3) Shane Bowers – F – Halifax McDonald’s – MAAA – 1999-07-30 – 6’0” 162 – Shoots Left
Bowers has become a well known name in the Nova Scotia hockey community for his dominant play with Halifax. The Herring Cove sniper led the NSMMHL playoffs in scoring with 33 points in 17 games as the Macs fell to Newbridge Academy in the Finals. Bowers was also the regular season scoring champ with 52 points (23G& 29A). The forward had a great showing at the recent Gatorade Excellence Challenge with 11 points as he helped Nova Scotia reach the final against Quebec (Blue).
4) Antoine Crete-Belzile –D – St-Francois – MAAA – 1999-08-19 – 5’11” 165 – Shoots Left
Crete-Belzile is the top rated Defenceman by QMJHL Central Scouting, despite an injury shortened season that saw him post four points and 10 penalty minutes in just 19 games with the Blizzard. He played on both the PP and PK units for his team when healthy.
5) Jocktan Chainey – D – Trois-Rivieres – MAAA – 1999-09-08 – 6’0” 195 – Shoots Left
Chainey is another top defensive prospect coming out of the Quebec Midget program. He had a strong postseason with five points in six games and had 13 points and 36 penalty minutes in 36 regular season contests. Chainey participated with Quebec (White) in the Gatorade Excellence Challenge.
6) Louis-Filip Cote – F – Levis – MAAA – 1999-05-02 – 6’0” 165 – Shoots Left
Cote had a big rookie season with 41 points for the Commandeurs, along with seven points in the playoffs and another two with Quebec (White) at the G.E.C.
7) Dereck Baribeau – G – St-Francois – MAAA – 1999-01-22 – 6’4” 171 – Catches Right
Baribeau is the top ranked goaltenders in the 2015 Draft and is a big kid standing 6-foot-4 inches tall. The 16-year-old went 15-11 for the Blizzard in 2014-2015 with some very good numbers. Baribeau had a 2.28 Goals Against Average and a .927 Save % during the regular season. His team lost in the 1st Round of the playoffs where he allowed 14 goals on 137 shots. He also appeared in three games for Quebec (White) in the Gatorade Excellence Challenge, going 1-2 with a 4.14 GAA and .842 Save %.
8) Arnaud Durandeau – F – Lac St-Louis – MAAA – 1999-01-14 – 5’10” 167 – Shoots Left
Durandeau was one of four Lac St-Louis players to score at least 50 points during the regular season. The Forward had 25 goals and 26 assists in his rookie year. The 16-year-old helped his team reach the QMAAA Finals where they lost to Chateauguay. He had 19 points in the playoffs and added 3 goals and an assist for Quebec (White) in the G.E.C.
9) Yan Aucoin – D – College Notre-Dame – MAAA – 1999-08-01 – 6’0” 202 – Shoots Left
Aucoin is a defenceman with good size. He can also contribute offensively, with 14 points in 42 games with the Albatros during the regular season. Aucoin picked up one assist during the Telus Cup.
10) Joel Teasdale – F – Antoine-Girouard – MAAA – 1999-03-11 – 5’11” 184 – Shoots Left
Teasdale scored 21 points in 29 games for the Gaulois in 2014-2015. He was second in team scoring for Quebec (Blue) with four goals and two assists as his team captured the Gatorade Excellence Challenge Championship.
11) Peyton Hoyt – F – Fredericton – MAAA – 1999-02-18 – 5’9” 154 – Shoots Right
The Lincoln, NB native had 29 goals and nine assists during the regular season for the Fredericton Canadiens. He added another five points in six playoff games. Hoyt also participated in the G.E.C for Team New Brunswick where he was second in team scoring with six points.
12) Alex-Olivier Voyer – F – Magog – MAAA – 1999-04-10 – 6’1” 179 – Shoots Right
Voyer is a big forward who had 26 points and 72 penalty minutes for the Cantonniers in 2014-2015. He scored another three points in four playoff games and added 14 penalty minutes. Voyer scored two goals and two assists in the Gatorade Excellence Challenge for Quebec (Blue).
13) Alex D’Orio – G – Magog – MAAA – 1999-04-28 – 6’2” 193 – Catches Right
While D’Orio’s regular season record of 9-12 doesn’t stand out, his goaltending numbers with the Cantonniers certainly do. The tall netminder had a 2.30 Goals Against Average and a solid .916 Save %. He helped backstop Quebec (Blue) to the Gatorade Excellence Challenge championship, giving up just eight goals on 84 shots in three games.
14) Alexander Krief-Fleming – D – Lac St-Louis – MAAA – 1999-03-17 – 6’2” 178 – Shoots Left
Krief-Fleming led the Lions in scoring by a defenceman in his rookie year, putting up 20 points (6G – 14A) in 41 games played. He had 40 penalty minutes and maintained a +2 rating. He added five points in the playoffs and a pair of assists at the Gatorade Excellence Challenge.
15) Charlie Lacombe – D – St-Eustache – MAAA – 1999-01-25 – 6’1” 182 – Shoots Right
The blue-liner picked up 10 points with the Vikings in 38 regular season games and had 32 penalty minutes. He combined for four points in the playoffs and Gatorade Challenge. Quebec (White).
16) Simon Lefebvre – F – Laval-Montreal – MAAA – 1999-02-03 – 6’1” 184 – Shoots Right
Lefebvre contributed 14 points and 34 penalty minutes to the Rousseau-Royale while scoring twice for Quebec (White) in the G.E.C.
17) Shawn Boudrias – F – Esther-Blondin – MAAA – 1999-09-14 – 6’2” 176 – Shoots Right
Boudrias had modest offensive numbers in 2014-2015 with Esther-Blondin scoring 10 goals and five assists in 40 games, but was able to put up five points in eight playoff games.
18) Jeremy Groleau – D – Levis – MAAA – 1999-10-25 – 6’1” 172 – Shoots Left
Groleau won’t turn 16-years-old until October yet he played in 42 games with the Commandeurs – scoring 11 points as a rookie while maintaining a +18 rating. He scored a pair of goals in the playoffs and also participated for Quebec (Blue) at the Gatorade Challenge.
19) Jordan Lepage – D – College Notre-Dame – MAAA – 1999-07-05 – 5’11” 164 – Shoots Right
Lepage picked up eight points and 24 penalty minutes with the Albatros in 2014-2015.
20) Zachary Bouthillier – G – Antoine-Girouard – MAAA – 1999-11-08 – 6’0” 155 – Catches Left
Bouthillier had an 8-16 record for the Gaulois with a 3.18 Goals Against Average and a .904 Save %. He went 1-0-1 for Quebec (Blue) at the G.E.C. allowing eight goals on 51 shots.
21) David Noel – D – St-Francois – MAAA – 1999-04-10 – 6’0” 160 – Shoots Left
Noel had 10 points and 20 penalty minutes for the Blizzard in 2014-2015.
22) Keenan MacIsaac – D – Rothesay Netherwood – HS – 1999-04-01 – 5’11” 170 – Shoots Left
The former Bedford Barons Major Bantam player was a top defenceman with the Riverhawks and with Team Nova Scotia at the Gatorade Excellence Challenge where he scored five points in five games. The Hammonds Plains native also played for Coach Jim Midgley’s Nova Scotia team at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C. this past winter.
23) Mathieau Charlebois – D – Esther-Blondin – MAAA – 1999-02-14 – 6’2” 212 – Shoots Left
Charlebois picked up 11 points and 58 penalty minutes as a rookie with the Phenix. He had 10 PIMS in five games with Quebec (White) at G.E.C.
24) Anthony Poulin – F – Levis – MAAA – 1999-08-26 – 5’8” 180 – Shoots Left
Poulin’s 15 goals and 29 assists placed him fourth in team scoring with 44 points during the regular season. He was a +28 for the Commandeurs and also picked up one assist in the Gatorade Challenge with Quebec (Blue).
25) Anthony Gagnon – F – Charles-Lemoyne – MAAA – 1999-02-22 – 5’9” 146 – Shoots Right
The Riverains rookie had 11 goals and 10 assists in 40 games played in the regular season. Gagnon had excellent playoff numbers with 11 points in 13 games. He suited up for Quebec (Blue) at the G.E.C. but failed to register a point.
26) William Poirier – F – Chateauguay – MAAA – 1999-11-13 – 6’0” 182 – Shoots Left
Poirier is one of four Chateauguay forwards ranked in the top 30 by QMJHL Central Scouting. He had 16 points and 32 penalty minutes in regular season play. The Valleyfield, QC native scored 11 points in 16 playoff games.
27) Cedric Pare – F – Levis – MAAA – 1999-01-24 – 6’1” 190 – Shoots Left
Pare had six goals and seven assists in 2014-2015 to go along with 14 penalty minutes. He picked up another three points in the playoffs.
28) Cole Rafuse – F – Valley – MAAA – 1999-01-05 – 6’0” 200 – Shoots Left
The Kingston, NS native had 31 points (12G – 19A) as a rookie with the Valley Wildcats this season to go along with a team-leading 11 points (4G- 6A) in six playoff games. Rafuse scored four points in the Gatorade Excellence Challenge and had one goal and three assists for Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games.
29) Shawn Kennedy – F – Chateauguay – MAAA – 1999-02-09 – 5’10” 187 – Shoots Left
Kennedy scored 11 points in 22 regular season games and added 16 penalty minutes. The Lery, QC native also had six points in 16 playoff games.
30) Adam Capannelli – F – Lac St-Louis – MAAA – 1999-05-17 – 5’9” 178 – Shoots Left
Capannelli put up 28 points (9G – 19 A) in 42 games while heating up in the playoffs with 14 points (4G – 10A) in 16 games. He also had four points for Quebec (White) at the Gatorade Challenge.
