Thankful for a winning streak in Moose Country
2023-10-07
Halifax, NS – Your Halifax Mooseheads keep finding ways to get the job done, and treated the hometown fans to a fifth straight victory on Saturday night to cap off a Thanksgiving Weekend homestand with a 3-1 defeat of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada at Scotiabank Centre.
Lou Levesque kept his hot streak alive with another goal, Brody Fournier scored the winner on a third period power play and Mathieu Cataford sealed the win with an empty net goal for the second night in a row. Goalie Mathis Rousseau was his usual steady self and backstopped the Herd with 19 saves.
The Armada goal came from forward Alexis Bourque and goalie Charles-Edward Gravel was very good while making 23 saves in a game that featured a slow start from both teams but picked up energy as the night wore on.
Halifax struggled to find a groove in the first period and were on the wrong end of the majority of the puck battles in the defensive zone while not getting much luck with some bounces on their offensive chances in the early going. Blianville-Boisbriand did manage to get a bounce go their way on a power play just 7:10 into the contest when a hard point shot got tipped in front of Rousseau and dramatically changed speed to get by the goalie who was otherwise perfect. The clubs were locked in a stalemate for more than 33 minutes after the Bourque tally until rookie Lou Levesque broke through for the Herd at 1:48 of the final period when he ripped a shot from the bottom of the circle that was initially stopped by Gravel but then trickled over the line. The goal evened the score at 1-1 and gave Levesque his fourth goal, and eighth point in his last five games.
That's 8 points in 5 games for Lou

The Mooseheads gained some major momentum after getting on the board and with a noisy and supportive crowd behind them, they kept the pressure on the Armada. 20-year-old Brody Fournier has enjoyed a hot start to the year and built on that with a clutch power play marker off the set-up by Cataford at the 12:01 mark. Fournier hammered home a one-timer for his team-leading fifth goal and Halifax never looked back. Cataford later put the game on ice with his second empty net goal in 24 hours and now leads the Mooseheads in scoring with 10 points.
Markus Vidicek finished the night with two assists while Cataford, David Moravec and Dylan MacKinnon had the other helpers. The Mooseheads continue to lead the Maritimes Division with a 5-and-2 record and 10 points. They’ll head out on the bus for a lengthy Quebec-based road trip after practice on Tuesday afternoon with stops coming in Baie-Comeau on Thursday, Chicoutimi on Friday and Rimouski next Sunday. The next home games for the Herd are set for Friday, October 20th against the rival Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Saturday, October 21st versus Val d’Or. The first 3,000 fans at the game on the 21st will receive free 30th Anniversary T-Shirts. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca
