Second straight preseason loss to Cape Breton
2023-08-23
Olivier Houde and a very veteran-laden Cape Breton Eagles squad trounced an unexperienced Mooseheads team 7-1 on Wednesday night at Centre 200 in Sydney as the clubs met for the second consecutive night in preseason action.
The Eagles grabbed their second straight win thanks to a three goal, two assist performance from the 19-year-old Houde. His line-mate Thomas Begin also had a big night with a goal and three helpers against a Halifax squad that did not have any returning veterans on the ice.
Ben Wallace accounted for the Mooseheads’ lone goal as he converted on a nice centering feed from Lou Levesque in the second period. Defenceman Dominic MacKenzie also picked up an assist on the play.
Cape Breton fans were witness to the first QMJHL goal from Eagles forward Emile Ricard who was taken in the first round, 12th overall in June’s Entry Draft. Other goals for the home team came from veterans Cole Burbidge and Antoine Roy. Cam Squires, Xavier Daigle and Nathan Meunier-Roberge all had two assists in the Eagles victory.
There were plenty of power play opportunities for the second straight night. Cape Breton scored three times in eight chances on the man advantage while Halifax scored once in seven opportunities.
George Foti got the start in goal for the Herd and allowed four goals on 16 shots in just over 31 minutes of action. Olivier St-Onge played the final 28+ minutes and made 12 saves on 15 shots.
The next preseason game for the Mooseheads will be held on Friday night at 7pm at the RBC Centre in Dartmouth when Halifax welcomes the Charlottetown Islanders. Tickets are on sale now while the game will also be streamed on the Halifax Mooseheads Official YouTube Channel.
