Mooseheads sign Assistant Coach Favreau to a contract extension
2019-03-07
Halifax Mooseheads General Manager Cam Russell announced today that the team has signed Assistant Coach Sylvain Favreau to a two-year contract extension.
“Sylvain has been a great fit for us since he joined the team prior to last season. I’ve really liked what he has done to help develop our players and he’s done a great job with the power play. I’m happy to know that he’ll be with us for the foreseeable future,” Russell said.
Favreau is in his second season with Halifax after leaving his post as Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations with the Cumberland Grads of the CCHL to accept the job with the Mooseheads in 2017.
“We met a little while back to talk about an extension. The team wanted to keep me here and I obviously wanted to stay so it was a pretty easy conversation to have,” Favreau said.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Eric Veilleux and Assistants Jon Greenwood and Favreau, the Mooseheads are an Eastern Conference best 46-14-2-1 which is the third most victories in one season in franchise history. The Orleans, ON native is in charge of running the power play unit and the Mooseheads are second overall in the QMJHL with a 29.2 percent success rate on the man advantage.
“This year has been very pretty special for me to be working with a coach like Eric Veilleux who obviously has a lot of experience not only at the junior level but at the pro level as well. I think that has helped me learn a lot as a coach from him.”
The Mooseheads have five games remaining in the regular season including road games this weekend in Moncton and Saint John before wrapping up the schedule on home ice next week. Halifax will host the Wildcats on Wednesday, March 13th at 7pm, the Sea Dogs on Friday, March 15th at 7pm and Charlottetown on Saturday, March 16th at 4:30pm.
The team is set to host the 2019 Memorial Cup Presented by Kia May 16-26.
