Halifax, NS – Mooseheads Captain Jake Furlong has officially signed his three-year, entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks. He was selected in the fifth round, 140th overall by the Sharks in 2022.
The Upper Tantallon, NS native has enjoyed an exciting start to his season after being named the 35th Captain in franchise history and 10th Nova Scotian to wear the “C” to signing his first professional contract. The 19-year-old has contributed a pair of assists in his first three games of the campaign after being returned to the Mooseheads from training camp with the Sharks.
“I’m super excited and humbled to be signing with the Sharks. It’s a dream come true and I’m happy to be able to share this moment with my teammates, coaches and especially my family who helped me get here,” Furlong said.
Furlong is playing in his fourth season as a member of the Mooseheads after joining the team as a second round pick in the 2020 QMJHL Entry Draft. He set career highs in goals (seven), assists (43) and points (50) last season and is now ninth in franchise history for career points by a defenceman with 104 in 174 games after passing MacKenzie Weegar during Sunday’s road victory over Acadie-Bathurst. Konrad Abeltshauser holds the team record with 150 career points by a defenceman.
