Scrimmage Recap
Sydney – The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles held their first scrimmage of training camp on August 15th at 2:30pm at the Canada Games Complex at CBU. The first period was 20 minutes of tight checking, with both teams feeling each other out. The period was scoreless until 2 minutes left in the first period when Michael Clarke found J.S. Deslauriers at the side of the net for a tap-in to make it 1-0 for Team White.
Second period had a different feel as more scoring chances by both teams were seen. Seven minutes into the second period, Cole Murphy drew a penalty which resulted in a penalty shot, in which he scored with a nice move to the forehand. From there, Team White poured it on when Charles Guevremont received a long stretch pass where he went in un-tested on Chase Marchand and scored to make it 3-0 for Team White.
Third period started off much the same for Team White when Raphael Corriveau fired a shot from the slot which handcuffed Jacob Fancy, making it 4-0 for Team White. Team White continued to pour it on when Zachary Woody made the score 5-0, 10 minutes into the 3rd period.
However, Team Black did not go out without a fight. Jonathan Oligny scored on a pass from Alexander Snow with 6:20 left in the 3rd period and then, less then a minute later, William Carrier cut the deficit to 5-2 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd. The comeback came up a bit short when Corriveau scored his 2nd goal of the game with just over a minute left to push Team White’s lead to 6-2 and win the game by 4 goals.
Note: Billy Hartley went out with a knee injury in the second period when he collided with Alexander Snow. He will be re-evaluated on Thursday. Eagles action continues on Thursday evening when the Eagles will host a Black and White game at 7pm at the Canada Games Complex. Tickets are available at the door.
