Screaming Eagles Wrap Up Season Against Mooseheads

The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles wrapped up their 2012-13 season on Sunday losing 5-2 to the Halifax Mooseheads in front of a sold out crowd of 10,595 fans on hand at the Halifax Metro Centre.
Matthew Boudreau and Luca Ciampini had a pair of goals for Halifax, while Nathan MacKinnon also chipped in with a goal for the Mooseheads, who finish regular season with a record of 58-6-3-1.
Charles-Eric Légaré and Michael Clarke each had a goal for the Screaming Eagles, who wrap up their season with a record of 14-46-3-5.
Halifax took a 1-0 lead at 11:53 of the first period as Matthew Boudreau scored his 35th goal of the season, Darcy Ashley and Luca Ciampini were given the assists.
The Mooseheads made the score 2-0 on the power play at 11:11 of the second period as Luca Ciampini buried his 24th goal of the season beating Screaming Eagles goaltender Alex Bureau, Stephen MacAulay and Matthew Boudreau added the helpers on the goal.
The Screaming Eagles would cut the Halifax lead to one at 16:02 of the middle frame as Charles-Eric Légaré netted his 17th goal of the season, Clark Bishop was awarded with the lone assist.
Halifax regained the two-goal lead 15 seconds into the third period as Nathan MacKinnon notched his 32nd goal of the season, Stefan Fournier and Austyn Hardie picked up the helpers.
Matthew Boudreau gave the Mooseheads at 4-1 lead at 9:33 of the final stanza as he scored his second goal of the game (36th of the season), MacKenzie Weegar and Darcy Ashley were given credit for the assists on the goal.
Cape Breton would pull to within two on the power play at 12:01 of the third period as Michael Clarke found the back of the net for his 19th goal of the season, the goal was unassisted.
The Mooseheads would add another goal at 16:38 of the final frame as Luca Ciampini fired home his 25th goal of the season, Darcy Ashley and Matthew Boudreau were given the helpers on the goal.
Zachary Fucale made 19 saves in the win for Halifax, his record improves to 45-5-2-1, while Alex Bureau turned aside 29 of 34 shots in the loss for Cape Breton, his record falls to 6-11-1-0.

Not in the lineup for Cape Breton: Timothé Simard, Loic Leduc (Lower Body), Kyle Farrell (Concussion), Stephen Midensky (Concussion Like Symptoms), Jakub Culek (Upper Body) and William Carrier (Lower Body).
Not in the lineup for Halifax: Forwards, Jonathan Lacroix-Courville, Ryan Falkenham and Max Lindsay along with defensemen Brian Lovell and Brennan Bailey.
Drouin’s Point Streak Snapped: Halifax Mooseheads left winger Jonathan Drouin had his 29-game point streak snapped on Sunday. The 17-year-old failed to record a point in Halifax’s 5-2 win over the Screaming Eagles. Drouin will also come up short of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s scoring title.
Mooseheads Wear Green Jerseys: The Halifax Mooseheads wore green jerseys during the game on Sunday. The game marked the first time the Mooseheads played a regular season home game on St. Patrick’s Day in franchise history.
Fan Appreciation Day In Halifax: The Halifax Mooseheads held their annual “Fan Appreciation Day” on Sunday. Prior to the game the Mooseheads recognized their three overage players (Stefan Fournier, Stephen MacAulay and Konrad Abeltshauser). The team also paid special tribute to their fans that have passed away this season.
Final Major Junior Game: Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defenseman Jonathan Oligny played his final Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game on Sunday. The 20-year-old finished the season recording a career high points with 26 (4 goals, 22 assists). Oligny was originally drafted by the Drummondville Voltigeurs at the 2009 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft in round seven, 126th overall. The native of St-Mathieu, Que., was traded to the Screaming Eagles on June 8th, 2012 for a third round pick at the 2013 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft (BAC). Screaming Eagles forward Jakub Culek is also finished his Major Junior career. Before suffering an upper body injury, the Czech Republic native posted seven points, including four goals and three assists in nine games.

The win for Halifax was their 58th of the season. They join Sorel (1973-74), Trois-Rivières (1978-79) and Saint John (2010-11) with 58 wins in a single season.
Mooseheads Play Final Regular Season Game: The Halifax Mooseheads played their final regular season game on Sunday afternoon. They finish the season with a record of 58-6-3-1. Breakdown: Home Record: 30-2-1-0, Road Record: 27-4-2-1. Halifax will start the 2013 President’s Cup playoffs on Friday, March 22nd, at the Halifax Metro Centre against the Saint John Sea Dogs.
