Screaming Eagles beat Voltigeurs for fourth straight win
SYDNEY – The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles extended their winning streak to four straight games with a 6-2 victory over the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Saturday.
Stephen Anderson, Colby Tower, Maxim Lazarev, Marcus Hinds, Alexandre Gosselin and Evgeny Svechnikov netted goals for the Screaming Eagles, who improve to 17-21-2-3 on the season.
Julien Avon and Mathieu Sévigny replied with goals for the Voltigeurs, who fall to 21-21-0-3 on the year.
After a scoreless first period, Cape Breton opened the scoring at 4:30 of the second period as Stephen Anderson scored his 16th goal of the season, Kyle Farrell and Pierre-Luc Dubois were given the assists.
The Voltigeurs tied the game as Julien Avon netted his third goal of the season beating Screaming Eagles goaltender Miguel Sullivan at 8:43 of the middle frame, Matthew Boucher had the lone helper on the goal.
The Screaming Eagles regained the lead as Colby Tower found the back of the net for his third goal of the season at 11:31 of the second period, Francis Brunelle and Loïk Léveillé picked up the assists.
Cape Breton took a 3-1 lead on the power play as Maxim Lazarev fired home his 20th goal of the season at 15:22 of the middle stanza, Jacob Smith and Alexandre Gosselin recorded the helpers.
Marcus Hinds extended the Screaming Eagles lead as he scored his 12th goal of the season beating Voltigeurs goaltender Joe Fleschler on the power play at 19:50 of the second period, Farrell and Léveillé added the assists on the goal.
Cape Breton made the score 5-1 as Gosselin netted his first goal as a Screaming Eagle, fifth of the season, at 9:20 of the third period, Tower and Dubois were given credit with the helpers.
The Screaming Eagles took a 6-1 lead on the power play as Russian Evgeny Svechnikov notched his 17th goal of the season at 11:11 of the final stanza, Smith and Lazarev were given the assists.
Drummondville would add another goal at 15:00 of the third period as Mathieu Sévigny scored his eighth goal of the season, Maxime Chevalier and Benjamin Gagné found the score sheet with the helpers on the goal.
Sullivan made 12 saves in the win for the Screaming Eagles, his record improves to 10-8-1-1. Fleschler turned aside 22 of 26 shots, before being replaced by Anthony Brodeur, son of NHLer Martin Brodeur, who stopped eight of 10 shots in his 20:00 of relief. Fleschler was tagged with the loss, his record falls to 11-10-0-0.
The Screaming Eagles are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, when they host the Halifax Mooseheads. Game time is 4 p.m. at Centre 200.

First Goal As Screaming Eagles: Cape Breton defenceman Alexandre Gosselin scored his first goal as a Screaming Eagle on Saturday. The native of St-Georges, Que., made the score 5-1 at 9:20 of the third period. He was acquired by the Screaming Eagles from Acadie-Bathurst on Jan. 2.
Game Misconduct: Drummondville Voltigeurs defenceman Francis Robichaud was given a game misconduct for taking off one’s own helmet or attempting to pull off an opponent’s helmet at 9:34 of the third period.
