Eagles Defeat CHL’s No. 1 Ranked Armada

SYDNEY – The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles have done what no other team in the league has done this season and that’s beat the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
The Screaming Eagles defeated the No. 1 ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League 5-4 in overtime, thanks to William Carrier’s goal 52 seconds into the extra frame. With the win, Cape Breton also snaps the Armada ten-game winning streak.
Jérémy Beaudry had a pair of goals for Cape Breton, while Bradley Lalonde and Justin Haché scored single markers for the Screaming Eagles, who improve to 6-3-0-2 on the season.
Nathanael Halbert, Danick Martel, Tyler Brown and Marcus Hinds each had goals for the Armada, who fall to 10-0-1-0 on the year.
The Screaming Eagles got the scoring started in the game as Bradley Lalonde buried a Charles-Eric Légaré rebound for his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal, on the power play, at 19:35 of the first period, Légaré and Justin Haché were given the assists.
Blainville-Boisbriand tied the game at 16:38 of the second period as Nathanael Halbert scored his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal beating a screened Maxime Lagacé, Danick Martel had the lone helper on the goal.
Cape Breton regained the lead on the power play as Haché fired a wrist shot beating Armada goaltender Samuel Montembeault at 18:51 of the middle frame, William Carrier and Julien Pelletier were awarded with the assists.
The Armada again tie the game as Martel scored his third goal of the season beating Lagacé on a wrap around at 1:17 of the third period, Daniel Walcott had the only helper on the goal.
Tyler Brown gave Blainville-Boisbriand the lead at 4:42 of the final stanza as he netted his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal, Samuel Tremblay and Samuel Hodhod were given credit for the assists.
Blainville-Boisbriand took a 4-2 lead as Marcus Hinds found the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season, Martel and Aaron Hoyles picked up the helpers.
Cape Breton pulled to within one on the power play as Jérémy Beaudry’s point shot beat Montembeault high on the blocker side at 15:00 of the third period for his third goal of the season, Cameron Darcy and Carrier added the assists on the goal.
A minute later, the Screaming Eagles tied the game as Beaudry buried his second goal of the game, fourth of the season, at 16:19 of the third frame, Bronson Beaton had the lone helper.
In the overtime period, Carrier’s heroics came 52 seconds into the extra frame as he picked up a Stephen Woodworth pass and beat Montembeault on the blocker side to give Cape Breton the 5-4 victory. Woodworth was given credit for the only assist on the game-winning goal.
Lagacé made 14 saves in the win for Cape Breton, his record improves to 3-2-0-1, while Montembeault turned aside 21 of 26 shots in the loss for Blainville-Boisbriand, his record falls to 1-1-0-0.
The Screaming Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday, October 15th, when they face the Halifax Mooseheads at the Halifax Metro Centre. The Screaming Eagles wore special pink jerseys in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Raffle tickets were sold during the game for a chance to win 1 of 24 pink jerseys. The jersey winners received their jerseys following the game.
First Career QMJHL Goals: Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defenseman Bradley Lalonde scored his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal on Sunday, while Blainville-Boisbriand Armada players Nathanael Halbert and Tyler Brown also scored their first career goals in the game.
Armada Winning Streak Snapped: The Blainville-Boisbriand winning streak was snapped at ten games on Sunday as the Screaming Eagles defeated the Armada 5-4 in overtime.
