Darcy Completes Hat Trick In Wild Win Over Sea Dogs

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Cameron Darcy scored three times for Cape Breton as the Screaming Eagles defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs 9-6 in a wild game at Harbour Station on Saturday.
With the win, Cape Breton extends their winning streak to four straight games, dating back to Nov. 29, against the Halifax Mooseheads.
Along with Darcy scoring for Cape Breton, Raphaël Corriveau fired home a pair of goals, while Michael Lyle, Justin Haché, Bradley Lalonde and Kyle Farrell chipped in with single markers for the Screaming Eagles, who improve to 17-11-0-3 on the season.
Spencer Smallman, Jurij Repe, Stephen Anderson, Nathan Noel, Oliver Cooper and Jason Cameron replied with goal for the Sea Dogs, who fall to 7-22-0-3 on the year.
Cape Breton got on the board early as Cameron Darcy buried a Loic Leduc rebound for his 17th goal of the season at 2:09 of the first period, Leduc had the lone assist on the goal.
The Screaming Eagles took a 2-0 lead at 13:53 as Michael Lyle’s wrap around found the back of the net for his second goal of the season, Julien Pelletier had the only helper.
Justin Haché made the score 3-0 on the power play as he scored his fourth goal of the season 21 seconds into the second period, Darcy and William Carrier added the assists.
Cape Breton took a 4-0 lead as rookie Bradley Lalonde netted his second goal of the season on the power play at 5:26 of the middle frame, Carrier and Haché recorded the helpers on the goal.
Saint John got on the board at 5:38 of the second period as Spencer Smallman slid home a Marcus Cuomo rebound for his seventh goal of the season, Cuomo had the lone assist.
The visiting Screaming Eagles took a 5-1 lead at 6:59 of the second stanza as Bronson Beaton found Kyle Farrell parked at the side of the Sea Dogs net, he made no mistake for his 15th goal of the season on the power play, Beaton and Pelletier found the score sheet with the helpers.
Raphaël Corriveau extended the Cape Breton lead as his shot found the back of the net for his 11th goal of the season at 8:27 of the second period, Jérémy Beaudry and Haché had the assists on the goal.
The Sea Dogs cut into the Screaming Eagles lead on the power play as Jurij Repe’s point shot beat Screaming Eagles goaltender Chase Marchand at 13:29 of the middle frame, Nathan Noel and Matthew Highmore picked up the helpers.
Less than a minute later, Saint John made the score 6-3 at Stephen Anderson scored his eighth goal of the season on the power play at 14:09 of the second period, Oliver Cooper and Highmore were awarded with the assists.
The hometown Sea Dogs pulled to within two as Nathan Noel found a rebound and tapped home his 11th goal of the season at 17:24 of the second period, Cuomo and Smallman picked up the helpers on the goal.
Saint John made the game interesting at 2:44 of the third period as Cooper fired home his 10th goal of the season to cut the Cape Breton lead to one, Highmore had the only assist.
Seconds later, Cape Breton regained the two-goal lead as Darcy netted his second goal of the game, 18th of the season, at 2:55 of the third stanza, the goal was unassisted.
The Screaming Eagles added to the lead as Darcy completed the hat trick beating Sea Dogs goaltender Antoine Landry at 11:38 of the third period, the goal was unassisted.
The Sea Dogs pulled to within two again as Jason Cameron scored his second goal of the season at 15:38 of the final frame, Alexander McQuaid and Smallman notched the helpers on the goal.
Corriveau secured the victory for Cape Breton as his wrist shot found the back of the net for his second goal of the game, 12th of the season, at 17:12 of the third period, Timothé Simard and Haché picked up the assists.
Marchand made 14 saves, before being replaced by Alex Bureau, who stopped two of three shots in his 17:16 of relief. Bureau’s record improves to 10-5-0-2, while Sébastien Auger turned aside 21 of 27 shots, before being replaced by Antoine Landry, who stopped 17 of 20 shots in the loss for Saint John, his record falls to 2-5-0-0.
The Screaming Eagles return to action tomorrow, Sunday, December 8th, 2013, when they face the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
