2026 U SPORTS University Cup updates

The 2026 U SPORTS University Cup takes place in Halifax, N.S., from March 19-22 where 165 CHL alumni will compete for Canada’s top university hockey prize. Among the CHL alumni competing in this year’s championship are 75 graduates of the QMJHL, 48 from the OHL, and 47 from the WHL, with five alumni having played in more than one Member League.
Day 4 – March 22
Felix Lafrance (Blainville-Boisbriand, Cape Breton, Chicoutimi, Acadie-Bathurst/QMJHL) scored the overtime winner as UQTR defeated Saint Mary’s 3-2 to win their sixth University Cup title. Charles Beaudoin (Shawinigan, Moncton/QMJHL) and Pier-Olivier Roy (Gatineau, Québec/QMJHL) also had goals while William Grimard (Rimouski, Cape Breton/QMJHL) made 45 saves.
The UNB Reds claimed bronze after a 5-2 victory against Windsor. Braeden MacPhee (Halifax/QMJHL) and Stuart Rolofs (London, Oshawa/OHL) each had a pair of goals in the win while Jax Dubois (Peterborough, Kingston/OHL) added three points (1G/2A).
Day 3 – March 21
Saint Mary’s and UQTR will play for U SPORTS supremacy after semi-final wins on Day 3 of the 2026 University Cup.
The no. 8 ranked Huskies will look for its second University Cup title after they eliminated Windsor 4-1 behind a pair of goals from Ben Boyd (Charlottetown/QMJHL). Reid Valade (Kitchener/OHL) and Matthew MacDonald (Shawinigan, Cape Breton, Baie-Comeau, Blainsville-Boisbriand/QMJHL) also scored while Marcus Vandenberg (Kitchener, Niagara, Sudbury/OHL) made 24 saves. Saint Mary’s won their first University Cup in 2010
UQTR – who are five-time champions – will look for title no. 6 after they took out UNB 7-4. Conor Frenette (Victoriaville, Québec/QMJHL) had an astonishing six points (3G/3A) while Felix Lafrance (Blainville-Boisbriand, Cape Breton, Chicoutimi, Acadie-Bathurst/QMJHL) and Charles Beaudoin (Shawinigan, Moncton/QMJHL) chipped with a goal and two assists each.
Sunday’s final between Saint Mary’s and UQTR takes place at 2pm ET / 11am PT live on CBC and TVA Sports 2. The bronze medal contest between UNB and Windsor begins at 8am ET / 5am PT.
Day 2 – March 20
The no. 3 ranked UQTR Patriotes marched into the semi-finals after a 4-0 win over no. 6 Moncton Aigles. William Grimard (Rimouski, Cape Breton/QMJHL) stopped all 27 shots he faced while Mathis Cloutier (Val-d’Or, Moncton, Shawinigan, Blainville-Boisbriand/QMJHL) had a goal and an assist in the win.
No. 2 ranked UNB – 10 time University Cup champions – marched into the semis after a 5-2 victory against no. 7 Queen’s. Cole Huckins (Acadie-Bathurst, Sherbrooke, Charlottetown/QMJHL), Jax Dubois (Peterborough, Kingston/OHL) and Cody Morgan (Kingston, Windsor, Flint, London/OHL) all contributed a goal and an assist in the win while Stuart Rolofs (London, Oshawa/OHL) added three assists. Remi Delafontaine (Cape Breton, Shawinigan, Chicoutimi, Blainville-Boisbriand/QMJHL) made 19 saves for the Reds in the win.
In Saturday’s semi-finals, Windsor will battle St. Mary’s while UNB face UQTR.
Day 1 – March 19
In the tournament’s first quarterfinal, the no. 4 ranked Windsor Lancers edged past the no. 5 Mount Royal Cougars 4-3. Brady Hinz (Sarnia, Peterborough/OHL) and Jacob Boucher (Lethbridge, Edmonton, Vancouver/WHL) each had goals for Windsor in the win while Max Donoso (Ottawa, Windsor/OHL) made 38 saves.
In defeat, Mount Royal’s Josh Tarzwell (Lethbridge, Red Deer/WHL) and Tristan Zandee (Calgary, Lethbridge/WHL) each had a goal and assist.
In a battle of the Huskies, no. 1 ranked Saskatchewan were toppled 4-3 in over time by no. 8 Saint Mary’s as Ethan Ritchie (Kingston, Sarnia/OHL) scored with 3:45 left in the extra frame in the second quarterfinal. Ben Allison (Cape Breton, Gatineau, Acadie-Bathurst/QMJHL) and Jake Uberti (Niagara, Mississauga/OHL, Acadie-Bathurst/QMJHL) each had two points (1G/1A) in the win while Marcus Vandenberg (Kitchener, Niagara, Sudbury/OHL) stopped 34 shots.
Conner Roulette (Seattle, Saskatoon, Spokane/WHL) – a former Dallas Stars draft pick – scored twice in defeat for Saskatchewan.
