One year ago, Cam Parr and the Spokane Chiefs felt the sting of defeat at the hands of the Medicine Hat Tigers in the 2025 WHL Championship Series. Now, the 19-year-old is playing hero for the black and orange. Acquired by the Tigers in a trade in September of 2025, Parr has enjoyed a career-best year and is coming off his biggest goal yet. The 5-foot-9, 187-pound winger scored his first goal of the playoffs with a screened wrister from the point. Parr’s goal clinched the game and Medicine Hat’s first-round series against the Pats. He’s the first Tiger to score in playoff overtime since former captain Oasiz Wiebslatt in Game 3 of the 2025 Eastern Conference Championship.<\/p>\n

MH wins 4-1<\/p>\n

Credit to the seven-seed Regina Pats for giving the defending WHL Champions all they could handle in their first-round matchup, but it ultimately wasn’t enough as the WHL’s highest-scoring team roared back for an overtime win. Calgary Flames prospect Andrew Basha had Medicine Hat’s lone goal as they trailed 4-1 in the second period, but the Tabbies slowly chipped away at the deficit. Noah Davidson hammered home a gritty goal from the top of the crease and Montreal Canadiens prospect Bryce Pickford let a one-timer fly for Medicine Hat’s second goal in under two minutes. Regina would nurse a 4-3 lead into the dying minutes of regulation, but on a Tigers powerplay, the puck took a strange bounce off the stanchion and right to the tape of Draft-eligible Liam Ruck (NHL CSS: 26) for a wide-open net to level the game. Less than a minute into overtime, Cam Parr sealed the series with a long wrister to mark four unanswered goals.<\/p>\n

The Medicine Hat Tigers’ title defence hopes are still alive.<\/p>\n

The Tigers punched their ticket to Round Two of the 2026 WHL Playoffs with a 5-4 overtime win against the Regina Pats in Game 5 on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Regina muscled out a commanding 4-1 lead in the second period, but the home side chipped away at the deficit steadily.<\/p>\n

Noah Davidson and Captain Bryce Pickford lit the lamp less than two minutes apart to make it a 4-3 game at the second intermission.<\/p>\n

That score would stand until the dying minutes of regulation, where the puck took a strange bounce off a stanchion and landed on the tape of NHL Draft-eligible Liam Ruck for a wide-open net and the game-tying goal.<\/p>\n

First-year Tiger Cam Parr whipped a seeing-eye shot through traffic 51 seconds into overtime to end the series.<\/p>\n

Calgary Flames prospect Andrew Basha paced Medicine Hat with nine points (3G-6A) in five games.<\/p>\n

The playoff opener saw Medicine Hat cruise to a 6-2 win off the steam of a hat trick from defenceman Jonas Woo, but the upstart Pats eked out a 4-2 decision in Game 2 to send the series back to Saskatchewan with one win apiece.<\/p>\n

Game 3 saw the Tabbies step up with their most dominant offensive effort of the series, with Basha and six other Medicine Hat skaters hitting the net in an 8-2 win.<\/p>\n

Top 2026 NHL Draft-eligible forward Liam Ruck (NHL CSS: 26) netted the game-winner in a 4-2 result in Game 4 to set up Saturday’s clinching tilt.<\/p>\n

Medicine Hat enters the postseason as Central Division champions and the second seed in the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n

With a 50-10-5-3 record, the Tigers are coming off their winningest regular season since 2016-17.<\/p>\n

The reigning Ed Chynoweth Cup winners are trying to become the first team to repeat as WHL champions since the dynastic Kamloops Blazers, who went back-to-back in 1994 and 1995.<\/p>\n

Eight Tigers blew past 20 goals in 2025-26, headlined by Bob Clarke Trophy winner Markus Ruck (NHL CSS: 31), who led the league with 108 points (21G-87A), with twin brother Liam a hair behind with 104 points (45G-59A).<\/p>\n

Captain and Montreal Canadiens prospect Bryce Pickford set a franchise record for goals by a defenceman with 45, while his defensive partner Jonas Woo set a new mark for single-season points by a Tigers rearguard with 86 (29G-57A).<\/p>\n

Both Rucks and Pickford have made the 2025-26 WHL Eastern Conference First All-Star Team, while Woo cracked the Second All-Star squad.<\/p>\n

Former Portland Winterhawks star Ryan Johansen is hanging up the skates following 13 seasons in the NHL.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old product of Vancouver, B.C., called it a career March 18, 2026.<\/p>\n

After being selected by the Winterhawks in the seventh round (150th overall) of the 2007 WHL Draft, the 6-foot-3, 218-pound centre spent two seasons in the WHL, including his NHL Draft season. The 2009-10 campaign helped Johansen bolster his draft stock as he tallied 25 goals and 69 points in 71 games with the Winterhawks.<\/p>\n

The following summer, the Columbus Blue Jackets used the fourth-overall selection in the 2010 NHL Draft to pick Johansen.<\/p>\n

Returning to the WHL for 2010-11, Johansen showed that the Blue Jackets made the right call. He exploded for 40 goals and 92 points in 63 games with the Winterhawks, earning a place on the WHL\u2019s Western Conference First All-Star Team.<\/p>\n

Though they fell short, the Winterhawks advanced to the WHL Championship Series against the Kootenay ICE, with Johansen leading the charge. The second-year WHL forward posted 13 goals and 28 points in 21 games, leading the 2011 WHL Playoffs in scoring. Despite the impressive performance from Johansen, it wasn\u2019t enough for Portland to hoist the Ed Chynoweth Cup, as the ICE defeated the Winterhawks in five games.<\/p>\n

Johansen was productive on the international stage that season as well.<\/p>\n

He represented Canada at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship, collecting nine points (3G-6A) in seven games as Canada finished with a silver medal in Buffalo, N.Y.<\/p>\n

Following 2010-11, Johansen made the jump to the NHL with the Blue Jackets, appearing in 67 games and tallying 21 points in 2011-12.<\/p>\n

The B.C.-born centre established himself as a Bonafide top-six NHL forward during the 2013-14 campaign. Playing a full 82-game slate for the first time in his career, he registered his first 30-goal season, finishing with 63 points (33G-30A).<\/p>\n

Johansen followed that up with a career-best season in 2014-15, as he put up 71 points (26G-45A) in 82 games with the Blue Jackets. He was named to the 2015 NHL All-Star Game and earned MVP honours in the annual showcase.<\/p>\n

After spending his first five seasons in Columbus, Johansen was dealt to the Nashville Predators during the 2015-16 season. He went on to play seven full seasons in the Music City, serving as an alternate captain for six of them.<\/p>\n

Johansen\u2019s last season in the NHL saw him skate in the Mile High City with the Colorado Avalanche, seeing action in 63 outings.<\/p>\n

Over 13 NHL campaigns, the former Winterhawks logged three seasons with at least 25 goals and six seasons with at least 60 points. He finished a successful NHL career with 905 career regular season appearances and 578 career points (202G-376A).<\/p>\n

During the post-season Johansen was equally productive, managing 54 points (19G-35A) in 67 career Stanley Cup playoff outings.<\/p>\n
