Over the month of August, the Western Hockey League will be celebrating the WHL Graduates from the 2025-26 season in a 23-part, team-by-team series.<\/em><\/p>\n

Today, we begin with the graduating players from the Brandon Wheat Kings.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

Grayson Burzynski (D)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hometown:<\/strong> Winnipeg, Man.
\nWHL Career Stats:<\/strong> 292 GP \u2013 32G-104A \u2013 136 points
\nWHL Draft:<\/strong> 2020 \u2013 Second Round, 44th Overall (Swift Current Broncos)<\/p>\n

Originally selected 44th overall by the Swift Current Broncos in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft, Grayson Burzynski made his Western Hockey League debut on October 2, 2021, against the Medicine Hat Tigers.<\/p>\n

The Winnipeg product spent the first four seasons of his WHL career with Swift Current, developing into a steady presence on the Broncos\u2019 blue line. In 233 career games with the Broncos, Burzynski boasted 21 points, 57 assists, and 78 points. He also suited up in 13 career post-season appearances, collecting four points (1 G-3 A).<\/p>\n

On May 7, 2025, Burzynski was acquired by the Brandon Wheat Kings alongside teammate and fellow graduate, Luke Mistelbacher, in a trade with Swift Current. The move brought the 6-foot-4 defenceman back to his home province for the final season of his junior career.<\/p>\n

And, Burzynski responded to the move with a career year.<\/p>\n

In 59 games during the 2025-26 regular season, the blueliner posted a career-best of 47 assists and 58 points \u2013 not to mention a plus-20 rating.<\/p>\n

Burzynski remained active during the 2026 WHL Playoffs, collecting three points (2 G-1 A) in four, first-round appearances. In total, he skated in 17 career playoff games, picking up seven points (3 G-4 A).<\/p>\n

Burzynski closes out his WHL career having appeared in 292 regular season games, recording 136 points (32 G-104 A).<\/p>\n

Nicholas Johnson (F)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hometown:<\/strong> Calgary, Alta.
\nWHL Career Stats:<\/strong> 229 GP \u2013 48G-82A \u2013 130 points
\nWHL Draft:<\/strong> 2020 \u2013 10th Round, 220th Overall (Portland Winterhawks)<\/p>\n

Nicholas Johnson\u2019s WHL career began with a 10th-round selection by the Portland Winterhawks in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.<\/p>\n

Selected 220th overall, the Calgary-born product made his Western Hockey League debut on January 8, 2022, against the Kelowna Rockets. Johnson spent the next two-plus seasons with Portland before being acquired by the Brandon Wheat Kings on January 10, 2024.<\/p>\n

Involved in one of the biggest deals of the 2023-24 WHL season, Johnson swapped places with former Wheat Kings captain and Detroit Red Wings prospect Nate Danielson.<\/p>\n

Following the move, Johnson finished the 2023-24 season with Brandon, recording eight points in 16 appearances. He then established himself as a key offensive contributor for the Wheat Kings, posting 43 points (16G-27A) in 52 games during his 2024-25 campaign.<\/p>\n

Johnson’s final WHL season proved to be his most productive. The 21-year-old appeared in all 68 regular season games for Brandon in 2025-26, setting career highs in goals (22), assists (31), and points (53). His plus-34 rating was also the best mark of his career.<\/p>\n

The forward also capped off his Western League career by reaching the 2026 WHL Playoffs with Brandon. In his five-season career, Johnson never missed the post-season and boasts six points (3G-3A) in 23 playoff appearances.<\/p>\n

Johnson closes out his junior hockey career with 130 points (48G-82A) in 229 regular season games.<\/p>\n

Luke Mistelbacher (F)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hometown:<\/strong> Steinbach, Man.
\nWHL Career Stats:<\/strong> 257 GP \u2013 110G-140A \u2013 250 points
\nWHL Draft:<\/strong> Listed (Swift Current Broncos)<\/p>\n

Going undrafted in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft and joining the Swift Current Broncos as a listed player never fazed Luke Mistelbacher. Instead, it inspired him.<\/p>\n

On September 23, 2022, the Steinbach, Man., product introduced himself to the WHL by scoring his first career goal in his debut against the Calgary Hitmen. Since then, the high-scoring forward was motivated to develop offensively in Speedy Creek, before eventually emerging as one of the Broncos\u2019 top scoring threats.<\/p>\n

His breakout came during the 2024-25 season.<\/p>\n

Mistelbacher recorded 93 points (42G-51A) in 67 games, establishing career highs in goals, assists and points while reaching the 40-goal plateau for the first time in his career. Mistelbacher spent four seasons as a member of the Broncos, collecting 68 goals, 94 assists, and 162 points in 190 appearances.<\/p>\n

On May 7, 2025, Mistelbacher was acquired by the Brandon Wheat Kings in a blockbuster deal, bringing the forward back to Manitoba for his final season of junior hockey.<\/p>\n

Mistelbacher followed up his breakout campaign with another strong offensive season in Brandon. He finished the 2025-26 regular season with 88 points (42G-46A) in 67 games, leading the Wheat Kings in both goals and points.<\/p>\n

His 42 goals ranked fifth in the WHL, while his 88 points placed him seventh in League scoring. It also marked the second consecutive season in which Mistelbacher scored 40 or more goals.<\/p>\n

In total, Mistelbacher completed his WHL career with 250 points (110G-140A) in 257 regular season games \u2013 and, let’s not forget about his 16 points (8G-8A) in 18 WHL Playoffs appearances. Mistelbacher also capped off his junior hockey career by being named to the WHL’s 2025-26 Eastern Conference First All-Star Team.<\/p>\n

Mistelbacher\u2019s next chapter will come at the professional level. On April 8, 2026, the Belleville Senators announced that the forward had signed an AHL contract for the 2026-27 season after joining the Club on an amateur tryout following Brandon\u2019s season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

In the lead-up to the 2026-27 hockey season, we\u2019re diving into the WHL prospect pool for every NHL team. To be included in this list, a player must be recently drafted, signed to an NHL contract, or meet the NHL\u2019s criteria for rookie status.<\/em><\/p>\n

Philadelphia’s WHL contingent is flying high with a pair of 2026 Ed Chynoweth Cup champions.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

Carson Bjarnason<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the winningest Wheat Kings netminders of all time has traded major junior for the pro ranks. Six-foot-4, 207-pound Carson Bjarnason took on a 1B role with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms in 2025-26, going 14-11-4 with a 3.43 goals-against average and a .877 save percentage. One of his finest efforts came in a 35-save 6-2 win over the Bridgeport Islanders on November 5. The 21-year-old also made two late-season appearances with the ECHL’s Reading Royals before returning to Lehigh Valley. The Flyers snapped up the Carberry, Man. product with the 51st overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft. Bjarnason spent his entire WHL career in Brandon, going 75-61-13-2 with a 3.14 GAA, a .903 save percentage and six shutouts. He was named to the 2024 WHL East Division Second All-Star Team and was also a finalist for WHL Goaltender of the Year.<\/p>\n

Matthew Gard<\/strong><\/p>\n

A change of pace saw towering forward Matthew Gard produce at his best pace yet in the WHL. The 6-foot-5, 197-pound pivot registered 33 points (17G-16A) in 55 games with the Red Deer Rebels and, post-trade-deadline, the Seattle Thunderbirds. Gard averaged .72 points in Seattle and finished the year with 515 faceoff wins (50.3%). The Winnipeg, Man. product stepped up again in the postseason with four points (1G-3A) in five tilts. Gard, who was selected with the 57th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft, will be expected to take on a key role on a T-Birds squad with lofty expectations in 2026-27.<\/p>\n

Brek Liske<\/strong><\/p>\n

By now, fans from across the continent have seen the pictures of a young Brek Liske decked out in Flyers gear juxtaposed against a similarly huge grin at his first Philadelphia development camp. The 2026 second-round pick (53rd overall) enjoyed a career year with 24 points (7G-17A) and a +36 rating in 52 regular-season games with the Everett Silvertips, but the playoffs are what truly changed his trajectory. With Tips captain and Anaheim Ducks pick Tarin Smith sidelined with an upper-body injury after the first round, Liske was elevated to play on Everett’s top pairing with projected top 2027 NHL pick Landon DuPont en route to capturing Everett’s first Ed Chynoweth Cup. Liske logged four goals (including two game-winners) and 13 assists for 17 points and a +25 rating in 18 games, including the championship-clinching goal, three assists in Game 4 to eliminate Penticton in the Western Conference Championship, and points in four consecutive games in the Final. Liske, a 6-foot-2, 188-pound blueliner from Beausejour, Man., also competed for Canada at the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase in hopes of earning a roster spot at the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship.<\/p>\n

Martin Psohlavec<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nine picks after Liske was called, Philadelphia added another netminder to its stable of prospects with 62nd- overall selection Martin Psohlavec. The 6-foot-5, 183-pound puckstopper will suit up for his first season of North American hockey in 2026-27 with the Saskatoon Blades, having signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the club after going 42nd overall in the first round of the 2026 CHL Import Draft. Last season, Psohlavec went 31-11-0 with a 1.92 GAA and .928 save percentage and eight shutouts with HC Energie Karlovy Vary in Czechia’s U20 league.<\/p>\n

Kent (KJ) Sauer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ahead of the 2026 NHL Draft, KJ Sauer committed to the Edmonton Oil Kings for 2026-27. Weeks later, his name was called 136th overall in the fifth round of the Draft in Buffalo, N.Y. The 6-foot-3, 203-pound forward is coming off three seasons with his hometown Andover High School, where he put up 89 points (35G-54A) in 101 games. He also had a brief stint in the USHL with the Lincoln Stars, where he added five points (2G-3A) in five games.<\/p>\n

Marek Sklenicka<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gard’s Seattle teammate made the most of his first campaign in the Dub, going 20-12-5-1 with a 3.21 GAA, a .902 save percentage, and three shutouts, highlighted by a 39-save clean sheet against the Spokane Chiefs. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound netminder battled valiantly in the 2026 WHL Playoffs, though the T-Birds would bow out in the first round. Scklenicka had a 1-2-1 record, a 3.67 GAA and .913 save percentage over that stretch. The 17-year-old Czech product was also invited to compete at the 2026 WHL Prospects Game and 2026 IIHF U18 World Championship, where he backstopped Czechia to bronze with a 2-1-0 record, a 1.91 GAA and .921 save percentage in three outings. Sklenicka was selected 120th overall in the fourth round of the 2026 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

Luke Vlooswyk<\/strong><\/p>\n

Liske’s Everett Silvertips snapped up towering 6-foot-5, 210-pound defenceman Luke Vlooswyk at the 2026 WHL Trade Deadline- a move that would pay off in spades as the Tips went on a championship run with a depleted defensive corps. Vlooswyk tallied 11 points (1G-10A) and a +23 rating in 63 games with Everett and the Red Deer Rebels. He stepped it up for eight points (1G-7A) in 18 postseason tilts, including the tying strike in Game 3 of the Championship Series and another two assists at the 2026 Memorial Cup. Originally selected in the fifth round (157th overall) of the 2025 NHL Draft, Vlooswyk has racked up 30 points (5G-25A) in 139 games over parts of four seasons.<\/p>\n

Today, we meet a pair of skaters aiming to go from the Calgary Hitmen to Canada’s capital.<\/em><\/p>\n

Blake Vanek<\/strong><\/p>\n

A change of scenery saw 6-foot-3, 210-pound forward Blake Vanek up his scoring. The Stillwater, Minn. product netted 36 points (19G-17A) in 69 games between the Wenatchee Wild and, after the 2026 WHL Trade Deadline, the Calgary Hitmen. The son of former NHLer Thomas Vanek scored a pair of game-winners for the Hitmen and added another goal in the 2026 WHL Playoffs, which saw Calgary bow out in the second round. Vanek, 18, was drafted by Ottawa with the 93rd overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NHL Draft. Vanek is primed to take a big step forward in his sophomore WHL season, especially after potting four points (2G-2A) in the penultimate game of the regular season.<\/p>\n

Carter Yakemchuk<\/strong><\/p>\n

Six-foot-4, 207-pound defenceman Carter Yakemchuk has set his sights on making Ottawa’s opening-night roster for 2026-27. The 2024 seventh-overall pick has certainly made a strong case to do so- after nearly making the NHL club out of camp last year, Yakemchuk made his NHL debut on April 25, 2026, registering two assists and earning first star of the game in a 3-2 showdown against the Detroit Red Wings. The Fort McMurray, Alta. product ended up with three points (1G-2A) in his first four NHL games to close out the campaign. He logged 40 points (10G-30A) in 54 games in his first season of professional hockey with the AHL’s Belleville Senators. He finished fourth on the AHL Sens in points and was the second-highest scoring rookie defenceman across the entire league, trailing only 2025 WHL Defenceman of the Year Tyson Jugnauth (Seattle Kraken). Yakemchuk ranks as one of the greatest Hitmen of all time, amassing 180 points (70G-110A) in 245 regular season games across four seasons with the Hitmen. He holds the franchise record for goals by a defender and ranks fourth in points by a defender.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Saskatoon, Sask., – <\/strong>A familiar face is back with the Blue and Gold. The Saskatoon Blades have acquired 20-year-old defenceman Tyrone Sobry from the Prince George Cougars in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2028 Western Hockey League Prospects (WHL) Draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were informed on Friday that Tristan Doyle would be leaving for NCAA, so we immediately inquired about adding Tyrone back,” said Blades president and general manager Colin Priestner. “Our coaches felt he was exactly what our defensive core needed as a 20-year-old. He plays hard, simple hockey and is extremely well liked in our room. He will be a strong shutdown presence for us this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-2 blueliner was acquired by the Blades on October 14, 2025 in a trade with the Prince Albert Raiders. Sobry recorded three goals, four assists, and 20 penalty minutes in 29 games with Saskatoon last season. The left-handed blueliner was acquired by the Cougars at last year’s trade deadline, where scored one goal and three assists in 28 games. Sobry added a shorthanded goal, an assist, and a +1 rating in 12 playoff games with Prince George last spring. In 144 career WHL games, the Saskatoon native has seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points.<\/p>\n

“It’s good to be home,” said Sobry. “I can’t wait to be back in the Blue and Gold.”<\/p>\n

Today, we meet a trio of talented Rangers youngsters who are ready to report for duty.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dylan Garand<\/strong><\/p>\n

Talk about a Garand year. Twenty-four-year-old Dylan Garand made his NHL debut and earned a new contract in 2025-26. The Victoria, B.C. product went 2-0-1 in three games with the Rangers, posting a 1.62 goals-against average and a .948 save percentage. Garand made 35 stops in his debut, a 3-2 shootout loss to Winnipeg, and made 27 saves for his first NHL victory on March 27 against Chicago. Per the Rangers, Garand is the first Blueshirts rookie netminder to earn a point in his first three NHL appearances since the great Henrik Lundqvist in 2005-06. At the AHL level, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound puckstopper logged a 16-15-2 record, a 2.83 GAA, a .896 save percentage and one shutout. He signed a two-year contract extension on June 21. Garand spent his whole WHL career with the Kamloops Blazers, amassing a tremendous 90-31-5-2 record and 12 shutouts. He was named WHL and CHL Goaltender of the Year in 2022, WHL Scholastic Player of the Year in 2020, and backstopped Canada to silver at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship.<\/p>\n

Zeb Lindgren<\/strong><\/p>\n

Valkomna, Zeb! Six-foot-1, 198-pound defenceman Zeb Lindgren is getting ready to make the jump from his native Sweden to the wide-open prairie. The 2025 NHL fifth-round pick (139th overall) recently signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement after being selected by the Red Deer Rebels with the 24th overall pick in the 2026 CHL Import Draft. Lindgren, 19, put up 19 points (6G-13A) in 36 games as he captained Skelleftea AIK U20 in the Swedish U20 Nationell.<\/p>\n

Ben MacBeath<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some fans struggled with his name, and opponents struggled to contain Ben MacBeath (pronounced like the Shakespeare play, nicknamed ‘Beefer’) in 2025-26. The 6-foot-2, 181-pound defenceman tallied 51 points (7G-44A) in 67 games for his hometown Calgary Hitmen, finishing fifth in scoring on his squad and second among all rookie WHL defencemen. MacBeath added two assists in seven playoff games, represented Team East at the 2026 WHL Prospects Game and was named a finalist for WHL Rookie of the Year. \u201cWe are excited to add Rasmus to our forward group,\u201d said General Manager Jason Ripplinger. \u201cHe will bring us speed and skill up front.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In 43 games last season with Assat U20 in Finland, Kamarainen recorded 16 goals, 36 points, and 20 penalty minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Named to Team Finland for the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, Kamarainen recorded an assist and four penalty minutes in five games. The Finnish team completed the tournament with a record of 2-3.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kamarainen will make his first trek to Moose Jaw ahead of 2026 training camp at the end of August. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Islanders contingent includes two of the Western Conference’s top rookies from 2025-26.<\/em><\/p>\n

Burke Hood<\/strong><\/p>\n

A rash of injuries spelled doom for the Vancouver Giants’ playoff hopes in 2025-26, but netminder Burke Hood was a bright spot for the young squad. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound puckstopper went 18-18-1-1 with a 3.83 goals-against average and an .892 save percentage, while making 40 or more saves on five occasions. The 19-year-old was drafted with the 170th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NHL Draft. Hood has spent two seasons in the WHL, both with the Giants, and owns a career 37-31-7-1 record, a 3.48 GAA, a .901 save percentage and three shutouts.<\/p>\n

Daylan Kuefler\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A full season on the ice must have felt like a breath of fresh air for 24-year-old Daylan Kuefler, who missed the bulk of last season with a long-term injury. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound forward put up 25 points (10G-15A) in 67 outings to finish eighth on the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders in goals and 10th in scoring, while ranking fourth in penalty minutes with 64. Kuefler’s resilience was rewarded with a two-year, two-way contract extension that runs until the end of the 2027-28 season. The Stettler, Alta. product snagged back-to-back 30-goal seasons in his last two major junior seasons, totalling 144 points (77G-67A) in 184 regular-season tilts with the Kamloops Blazers. Kuefler was just shy of a point-per-game in playoffs with 24 points (13G-11A) in 30 postseason contests, in addition to four points (1G-3A) at the 2023 Memorial Cup. He was selected with the 174th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

Jacob Kvasnicka<\/strong><\/p>\n

WHL Rookie of the Year finalist Jacob Kvasnicka paced the Penticton Vees in the team’s first WHL season, logging 85 points (35G-50A) and earning a spot on the WHL Western Conference Second All-Star Team. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound winger led the WHL with four shorthanded goals, while ranking third in points among rookies and tying for 12th in points among all skaters. Kvasnicka, who was chosen 202nd overall in the seventh round of the 2025 NHL Draft, also logged 25 multi-point games. In the playoffs, he tacked on another 15 points (8G-7A) to help the Vees reach the Western Conference Championship, where they fell to the eventual champion Everett Silvertips.<\/p>\n

After scoring six goals in his first six WHL games, Czech forward Tomas Poletin was quickly nicknamed ‘The Goal Scoring Machine’ for the Kelowna Rockets. The 6-foot-2, 206-pound winger went off for 35 points (20G-15A) in 43 games. Late-season injuries limited his ice in the second half of the season, but he was an undeniable bright spot on a Rockets squad with plenty of firepower. Poletin, 19, put up six points (4G-2A) in seven games to help Czechia win silver at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship and posted another five points (2G-3A) in nine playoff games for Kelowna and an assist at the 2026 Memorial Cup. RED DEER \u2013 <\/strong>The Red Deer Rebels are excited to announce that Swedish defenceman Zeb Lindgren has signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the team.<\/p>\n

Lindgren was selected by the Rebels with the 24th<\/sup> overall pick in round one of the 2026 CHL Import Draft. He was selected by the New York Rangers in round five of the 2025 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

Lindgren hails from Ume\u00e5, Sweden and played last season for Skelleftea AIK in the country\u2019s top U20 league. He was the team\u2019s captain and had 19 points in 36 games, including six goals and 13 assists. Lindgren also appeared in two games in Sweden\u2019s top professional league, the SHL.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a real heady player, a smart player who was an NHL draft pick of the (New York) Rangers last year, so he fit what we were looking for,\u201d said Rebels Owner, President and General Manager Brent Sutter. \u201cHe speaks good English and has leadership abilities as he was captain of his team in Sweden. That kind of character is nice.\u201d<\/p>\n

The six-foot-one, 198-pound blue liner represented Sweden at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2025 World Junior A Challenge, winning medals at both events.<\/p>\n

Today, we’ll check in on a devilishly talented group aiming to make the jump in New Jersey.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

Josh Filmon\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Six-foot-3, 170-pound winger Josh Filmon continued to climb in his second season in the pro ranks. After spending the bulk of his first professional season in the ECHL, Filmon earned a much more consistent role with the AHL’s Utica Comets, netting six points (4G-2A) and 14 penalty minutes in 31 games, with one brief sojourn in the ECHL with the Adirondack Thunder in late November and early December. New Jersey selected the Winnipeg, Man. product with the 166th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft. Filmon spent four seasons with the Swift Current Broncos, tallying 189 points (99G-90A) in 212 regular-season games, highlighted by a 75-point (47G-28A) run in 2022-23 that saw him make the WHL East Division First All-Star Team.<\/p>\n

Jeremy Hanzel<\/strong><\/p>\n

2023 WHL Champion Jeremy Hanzel seems primed to take a step forward in 2026-27. The 23-year-old defenceman finished second in points on the ECHL Thunder with 49 points (8G-41A) in 72 games, while ranking eighth among all ECHL defenders. He’s expected to start next season in the AHL ranks. The 6-foot-1, 201-pound rearguard was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft, but was acquired by the Nashville Predators and, later, the Devils as part of the Erik Haula trade in June 2025. Hanzel, from Coquitlam, B.C., suited for the Seattle Thunderbirds for four seasons, posting 149 points (39G-110A) in 218 regular-season contests. He was named to the 2024 WHL U.S. Division Second All-Star Team and logged WHL\u2019s best plus\/minus of the 2022-23 season with a +70 rating. Hanzel was Seattle’s top-scoring defenceman in the squad’s run to the 2023 Ed Chynoweth Cup. He put up 22 points (5G-17A) in 19 games, including three goals and four assists in the Championship Series, and added two assists in five games at the 2023 Memorial Cup.<\/p>\n

Kasper Pikkarainen<\/strong><\/p>\n

20-year-old Finn Kasper Pikkarainen’s brief stint in North America with the Red Deer Rebels was cut short by a knee injury in 2023-24, but the 6-foot-3, 198-pound winger has since refound his form back at home. Pikkarainen netted six points (2G-4A) and 18 penalty minutes in 45 appearances with TPS in Liiga, while registering an assist in six appearances for Finland at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship. New Jersey selected Pikkarainen with the 85th overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

Matias Vanhanen<\/strong><\/p>\n

After going undrafted in his first season of eligibility, 5-foot-11, 176-pound winger Matias Vanhanen jumped from Finland to Washington in hopes of catching the eye of an NHL team. Few could have predicted how massive his year would be. Vanhanen, 18, led the Everett Silvertips in regular-season scoring with 87 points (21G-66A) in 62 games, including four outings that saw him net four or more points. His mastery bled into the playoffs, where Vanhanen notched 24 points (12G-12A) to help Everett capture the Ed Chynoweth Cup for the first time in franchise history. Vanhanen was named a finalist for both WHL Rookie of the Year and the WHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player. He also stood in a class of his own at the 2026 Memorial Cup, where he nabbed eight points (4G-4A) in five contests and was named to the CHL Memorial Cup All-Star Team. Vanhanen added six assists for Finland at the 2026 World Juniors, and the dream year culminated in having New Jersey choose him with the 37th overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

Luke Wilfley<\/strong><\/p>\n

Englewood, Col.’s Luke Wilfley is one of the newest members of the Devils after hearing his name called 172nd overall in the sixth round of the 2026 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-1, 179-pound centreman put up 15 points (9G-6A) in 66 games in his rookie season with the Portland Winterhawks, while adding 189 faceoff wins (42.1%).\u00a0 He’s expected to head to Arizona State University for 2026-27 after playing parts of two season in the Rose City.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
