Raiders Head Coach Truitt shares sister’s battle ahead of Hockey Fights Cancer Night
Cherylee Truitt is breaking new ground in Saskatchewan’s fight against cancer.
Truitt, the sister of Prince Albert Raiders Head Coach Jeff Truitt, is the first person in Saskatchewan to undergo Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cell (CAR T) therapy as part of her battle with diffuse large B cell lymphoma.
Previously, cancer patients have been forced to leave the province to seek this specific treatment, which sees oncologists re-inject a patient with their own ‘supercharged’ T cells (a type of white blood cell) to bind to and destroy cancer cells more effectively.
Jeff Truitt is sharing his family’s story as the Raiders prepare to host Hockey Fights Cancer Night on October 4, 2024.
Proceeds from a specialty jersey auction will benefit the Canadian Cancer Society’s Travel Treatment Fund, which helps offset travel costs for low-income patients who must travel away from home for treatment and other related appointments.
