Alumni Spotlight: Riley Kieser
WHL.ca caught up with WHL Alumni and University of Alberta Golden Bears forward Riley Kieser (Vancouver Giants, 2011-12 to 2012-13; Edmonton Oil Kings, 2013-14) to discuss WHL memories, the WHL Scholarship and life as a full-time student athlete playing Canada West hockey.
About WHL Scholarship:
The WHL provides the top young talent in the west with the opportunity to develop their skills on the ice at the highest possible level, without compromising their academic goals. The WHL is committed to recognizing academic excellence. Awards are presented annually to the WHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year and Scholastic Team of the Year.
For each season played in the WHL, a player is awarded with a one-year post-secondary scholarship, which includes tuition, compulsory fees and required textbooks.
During the 2016-17 fall academic year, 355 WHL Scholarships were awarded, representing the highest total for the fall academic season in WHL history. Of those 355 students accessing their WHL Scholarship, 202 are furthering their education while also playing Canadian University hockey at the U Sports level, including 142 in the Canada West Conference (CWUAA).
