Hurricanes sign Czech forward Oliver Sichtar to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement

Lethbridge, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have announced the signing of 2008-born import forward Oliver Sichtar to a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement. Sichtar, 18, was selected by the Hurricanes in the second-round (64^th overall) of the 2026 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft in June. The Brno, Czechia, product spent the 2025-2026 season with the HC Kometa Brno U20 in the Czechia U20 league amassing 23 points (8g-15a) along with 20 penalty minutes in 49 regular season games, finishing sixth in team scoring. He added four points (1g-3a) along with a plus-3 rating in five post-season games. “We are excited to welcome Oliver Sichtar to the Hurricanes organization,” said Hurricanes General Manager Barclay Parneta. “Oliver is a big, skilled forward with excellent hockey sense who competes hard at both ends of the ice. We believe he has a bright future, and we’re looking forward to helping him continue his development in Lethbridge.” The 6’3, 190-pound right-winger collected 24 points (12g-12a) along with four penalty minutes while adding one goal in six playoff games in 2024-2025 with the HC Kometa Brno U17 club. Sichtar spent the 2023-2024 season played in the U16 Division-1 league with IFK Taby HC in Sweden where he totaled nine points (4g-5a) with 27 penalty minutes in 26 regular season games. Internationally, Sichtar represented Czechia at the World Under-19 Championship in May helping his country capture a Bronze medal. He skated in seven games for Czechia during the tournament collecting one goal. Sichtar was teammates with fellow Hurricanes signed import player Dominick Byrtus during the tournament. Additionally, he played in 16 games with the Czechia U18 International team collecting five goals during the 2025-2026 campaign. Sichtar joins Byrtus as the signed Hurricanes European players for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. Swift Current signs Stepan Farushev to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement

Swift Current, SK – The Swift Current Broncos are pleased to announce the signing of 2009-born Russian forward Stepan Farushev to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

Farushev was selected by the Broncos with the 91st overall pick in the 2026 CHL Import Draft.

Standing at 6'6", the Balashikha, Russia product spent the 2025-26 season between Severnaya Zvezda Moskva U17 and MAH Moskva-2 U18. He recorded 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 28 games with Severnaya Zvezda before finishing the campaign with MAH Moskva-2 U18, where he registered 7 goals and 9 assists for 16 points in just 14 games.

"I am incredibly happy to sign with the Swift Current Broncos and become a part of this great organization and look forward to the start of the season," said Farushev.

England and Pue score twice, Canada routs Switzerland 7-3 to open 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup

Edmonton, Alta.- 2027 NHL Draft-eligible Brock England (Seattle Thunderbirds / Red Deer, Alta.) and 16-year-old Regina Pats Star Liam Pue (Langley, B.C.) scored twice as Canada routed Switzerland 7-3 to open the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Portland Winterhawks forward Alessandro Domenichelli (Lugano, Sui.) logged a pair of assists in the loss, while the WHL contingent accounted for 10 points. England, a 5-foot-11 forward who logged 21 goals in his rookie season with the T-Birds in 2025-26, was named Canada's Player of the Game. The goals poured in fast and furious as the teams combined for six goals in the first nine minutes of the match. Canada got off to a dream start as 2027 NHL Draft-eligible defenceman Boston Tait (Wenatchee Wild / Estevan, Sask.) broke the puck out of the Canadian zone for an extended offensive zone shift. As the squad piled pucks on the Swiss net, England banked a puck off Switzerland's netminder from behind the net to open the scoring 1:18 into the opening frame. Switzerland stormed back with two goals coming 40 seconds apart to take an early lead, with Domenichelli providing the primary assist on his team's opening goal. Upcoming Regina Pats stars Maddox Schultz (Regina, Sask.) and Liam Pue flexed their chemistry by combining for two goals and two assists, despite being the youngest players on the Canadian roster. The duo tied the game as Schultz peeled up the wall and dished a backhand centering pass for Pue for a point-blank shot from the slot, with Tait earning a secondary assist. While the pair wouldn't pick up any assists on Canada's next goal, they helped maintain the pressure before linemate Camryn Warren (North Bay Battalion / OHL) restored the home side's lead. Niagara Wolves star Ryerson Egdar (Niagara Wolves / OHL) lit the lamp 20 seconds later to make it 4-2 for Canada and chase Ayden Huet from the Swiss crease. After Canada Captain and 2025 WHL Champion Landon DuPont (Everett Silvertips / Calgary, Alta.) hustled down the ice to force an icing and faceoff in Switzerland's end, Pue attacked with a sharp wrister off a Schultz faceoff win for his second goal of the evening. NHL Prospect Watch: Florida Panthers

In the lead-up to the 2026-27 hockey season, we’re diving into the WHL prospect pool for every NHL team. To be included in this list, a player must be recently drafted, signed to an NHL contract, or meet the NHL’s criteria for rookie status. The Florida Panthers' prospect pool features three recent WHL Champions.

Marek Alscher The 6-foot-3, 205-pound defenceman made his NHL debut in April of 2026 and stayed with the Panthers for their last four games of the regular season. The team went 3-1-0 over that stretch, with Alscher averaging more than 20 minutes on the ice while picking up three assists and a +4 rating. The 22-year-old stayed steady in his second season in the professional ranks, notching 11 points (3G-8A) in 52 games with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers before getting called up to the show. Alscher, from Kladno, Czechia, spent three seasons with the Portland Winterhawks, bagging 66 points (22G-44A) over 178 regular-season games, while helping the squad reach the 2024 WHL Championship Series. He was drafted by the Panthers with the 93rd overall pick in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft. Shea Busch A season that could have easily gone off the rails turned into the comeback of a lifetime for North Vancouver, B.C.'s Shea Busch. The 6-foot-3, 216-pound winger was off to a hot start with 13 goals and five assists in the first 12 games of the campaign with the Everett Silvertips, but suffered an upper-body injury that left him sidelined until the first round of the 2026 WHL Playoffs. Busch scored in his return to the ice, went on a six-game point streak, and ended up with 13 points (7G-6A) in 16 games to clinch Everett's first WHL Championship, highlighted by a hat trick in the title match. He added another assist as the Silvertips battled to the Memorial Cup Final and is currently representing Canada at the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase in hopes of representing Canada in IIHF competition for the first time in his career. Busch, 19, was selected with the 128th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2025 NHL Draft. Arvid Drott Stockholm, Sweden's Arvid Drott is gearing up for his first North American season after signing a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Medicine Hat Tigers, who chose him with the 59th pick in the 2026 CHL Import Draft. The 6-foot-187-pound winger posted 25 points (15G-19A) in 28 appearances with Djurgardens IF U20 side, in addition to one call-up to Djurgarden's SHL squad. Florida snapped him up with the 192nd overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NHL Draft. Brendan Dunphy Twenty-year-old Brendan Dunphy spent 2025-26 with the University of Connecticut, where he tallied six points (2G-4A) in 37 outings. The 6-foot-5, 207-pound rearguard joined the Wenatchee Wild last season, where he put up 22 points (4G-18A) en route to hearing his name called in the seventh round (197th overall) of the 2025 NHL Draft. Jonas Kemps Six-foot-6, 196-pound defenceman Jonas Kemps is about to embark on his rookie season with the Seattle Thunderbirds after signing with the club in May. The Sebastopol, California product spent last season with the USHL's Chicago Steel, where he logged nine points (2G-7A) in 57 tilts. He was drafted with the 98th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2026 NHL Draft. Gracyn Sawchyn The former Edmonton Oil Kings alternate captain handled plenty of adversity in his first season of professional hockey with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers. He rattled off 23 points (6G-17A) in 35 games, but missed a large chunk of time after suffering an upper-body injury in January. He was able to return to close out the season in April and finished sixth on the Checkers in points-per-game. The 6-foot, 154-pound forward spent three seasons in the WHL with the Thunderbirds and Oil Kings, racking up 200 points (67G-133A) in 166 games. Sawchyn captured the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the T-Birds in 2023 and cracked the WHL East Division Second All-Star Team in 2024-25. Now 21, Sawchyn was picked up with the 63rd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft. Hunter St. Martin The speedy Tigers graduate registered 13 points (5G-8A) in 46 games in his first spin with the Checkers after winning the WHL in 2025. St. Martin, 21, earned his entry-level deal with Florida after being selected 193rd overall in the sixth round of the 2024 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound winger spent four seasons with the Tabbies, posting 133 points (71G-62A) in 209 games, highlighted by a 39-goal run in 2024-25 that saw the Tigers finish first in the Eastern Conference. The Edmonton, Alta. native recorded 17 points (7G-10A), highlighted by seven points in the Final, to hoist the Ed Chynoweth Cup and advance to the Memorial Cup Final.

Dominick Byrtus signs WHL Scholarship and Development with Hurricanes

Lethbridge, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club have announced the signing of 2009-born defenceman Dominick Byrtus to a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement. Byrtus, 17, was selected by the Hurricanes in the first-round (3^rd overall) of the 2026 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft in June. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, product is a dual citizen of both the United States and Czechia. During the 2025-2026 season, he amassed 12 points (4g-8a) along with 16 penalty minutes in 23 regular season games with HC Ocelari Trinec U20 team before adding seven assists and 11 penalty minutes in 10 post-season games. Byrtus also appeared in 22 regular season games on loan to HC Frydek-Mistek club in the Czechia2 league where he collected two points (1g-1a) along with a minus-1 rating. “We are very excited to welcome Dominick to the Hurricanes. 2026 WHL Champion DuPont to captain Canada at Hlinka Gretzky Cup, Pats’ Schultz to serve as alternate

Edmonton, Alta.- Everett Silvertips defenceman and 2026 WHL Champion Landon DuPont will captain Canada as the country eyes a return to the top of the podium at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. The projected top 2027 NHL Draft pick had been invited to participate in the World Junior Summer Showcase, but opted to return to the prestigious U18 tournament in hopes of improving on the bronze medal he won in 2025. "It's exciting," DuPont said during Canada's training camp. "We want to be the team that kind of starts the year off on a good note and try to bring gold back to Canada. I think just coming in here, as you know, the only guy that played last year, (I'm) trying to lead the guys as much as I can, but everyone in that room is a leader themselves, so it's been pretty fun. Regina Pats forward Maddox Schultz and Saint John Sea Dogs star Alexis Joseph will serve as alternate captains. DuPont, 17, is the first-ever defenceman granted exceptional status to play in the WHL full-time in his 15-year-old season. The Calgarian's sophomore campaign saw him pick up 73 points (18G-55A) and a +59 rating in 63 games to help the Silvertips capture a second consecutive Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as regular season champions and earn a nod as a finalist for WHL Defenceman of the Year. He added another 23 (5G-18A) postseason points as the Silvertips hoisted the Ed Chynoweth Cup for the first time in franchise history. Schultz, 16, utilized the Western Canadian Development Model to suit up for 34 games with the Regina Pats as an underager in 2025-26. The Regina, Sask. native impressed in the small sample size with 29 points (15G-14A) with the WHL club, in addition to a tremendous 60-point (30G-30A) run in 21 games with the U18AAA Regina Pat Canadians.

"He's a super special player," Schultz said of playing alongside DuPont. "Seeing what he did last year in the dub, it's really special... The way he carries himself, the way he treats his teammates is unbelievable. He's someone, you know, I really look up to.

I think if we have everyone bought in and everyone really connected, I think we can do something special here. Right now, we're just building family and building, you know, really close relationships with everybody. The end goal is winning gold." Nine Western Hockey League skaters will represent Canada at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Beyond DuPont and Schultz, the Western contingent features goaltender Leif Oaten (Lethbridge Hurricanes), defenders Boston Tait (Wenatchee Wild) and Brock Cripps (Prince Albert Raiders), as well as forwards Brock England (Seattle Thunderbirds), Ben Harvey (Prince Albert Raiders), Kayden Stroeder (Edmonton Oil Kings) and Liam Pue (Regina Pats). WHL leads Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team with nine players set to compete at 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup

Calgary, Alta. – Nine Western Hockey League players have been named to the roster for Canada’s Summer Under-18 Team for the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, Hockey Canada announced Friday.

The WHL will be represented by five forwards, three defencemen, and one goaltender on the Canadian roster at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, which is scheduled for Monday, August 3, through Saturday, August 8, in Edmonton, Alta.

Canada’s 22-player roster features nine players from the WHL, eight players from the Ontario Hockey League, and five players from the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.

Canada’s roster was selected by Program of Excellence (POE) general manager Alan Millar (Tottenham, Ont.), alongside POE head scout Byron Bonora (Brooks, Alta.) and U18 assistant general manager Yanick Lemay (Drummondville Voltigeurs / QMJHL; Drummondville, Que.), with input from Scott Salmond (Creston, B.C.), senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations, and Benoit Roy (Sudbury, Ont.), director of hockey operations.

“After a competitive training camp and pre-tournament game against Sweden, we are excited to announce the 22 players who have earned the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup on home ice in Edmonton,” Millar said. “This is a highly skilled group of young players that is motivated to accomplish our goal of winning a gold medal, and we know our players are excited to wear the Maple Leaf and play in front of Canadian fans.”

DuPont is the lone returner to Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team – in 2025, he helped his country claim bronze at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

Also representing Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team are assistant coaches Ryan McDonald (Prince Albert Raiders / WHL; Prince Albert, Sask.) and Kyle Chipchura (Edmonton Oil Kings / WHL; Westlock, Alta.), goaltending coach Jeff Harvey (Saskatoon Blades / WHL; St. Albert, Alta.) and athletic therapist Taylor Cochrane (Kamloops Blazers / WHL; Elk Point, Alta.).

Canada opens the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup against Switzerland on Monday, August 3 at 5 p.m. MT. Canada then faces Slovakia on Tuesday, August 4 and Sweden on Wednesday, August 5 to close out preliminary action before the tournament concludes with the medal games on Saturday, August 8.

Canada has one pre-tournament game remaining Saturday, August 1, at 5 p.m. MT, when they play Czechia at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Leif Oaten, Lethbridge Hurricanes

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Oaten made his WHL debut during the 2025-26 campaign, dressing in 31 games for the Hurricanes. Selected in the third round (58th overall) of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, the Calgary product went 6-19-2-0 and recorded one shutout in his first season with the Hurricanes.

Oaten’s first career WHL shutout came February 27, 2026, on home ice, when he made 21 saves to backstop the Hurricanes to a 6-0 victory over the Swift Current Broncos. He made a career high 41 saves on December 28, 2025, as the Hurricanes dropped a 5-2 road decision to the Edmonton Oil Kings. On six occasions last season, Oaten faced 40+ shots while turning in performances of 35+ saves in six outings.

Boston Tait, Wenatchee Wild

The 6-foot-1, 198-pound Tait made his WHL debut during the 2024-25 season, appearing in six games for the Wild. He joined Wenatchee on a full-time basis in 2025-26, dressing in 62 games and logging 23 points (5G-18A). Over 68 career WHL regular season games, the product of Estevan, Sask., has collected 25 points (5G-20A). Tait was selected by the Wild in the first round (12th overall) of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

Tait recorded his first career WHL goal December 7, 2025, in a 3-2 road win over the Calgary Hitmen. He was named Sandman WHL Rookie of the Week for the week of December 1-8, 2025.

Landon DuPont, Everett Silvertips

The 5-foot-11, 192-pound DuPont is the first defenceman to be granted Exceptional Player status in WHL history. He earned the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as WHL Rookie of the Year in 2024-25 after securing 60 points (17G-43A) in 64 games. He was also named CHL Rookie of the Year for his outstanding performance as a 15-year-old. During the 2025-26 season, he posted 73 points (18G-55A) in 63 games and was named to the WHL Western Conference First All-Star Team. He played a key role in helping the Everett Silvertips claim the franchise’s first WHL Championship in 2026.

Selected by the Silvertips with the first-overall pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, DuPont tallied 133 points (35G-98A) over 127 career WHL regular season appearances from 2024-25 through 2025-26. He added another 38 points (10G-28A) in 28 career WHL Playoff games.

Though the Silvertips fell in the Memorial Cup finale to the Kitchener Rangers, DuPont was named to the tournament all-star team.

Brock Cripps, Prince Albert Raiders

The 5-foot-11, 166-pound Cripps enjoyed an outstanding 2025-26 season with the Prince Albert Raiders, registering 37 points (6G-31A) in 62 games. Selected by the Raiders in the first round (second overall) of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, Cripps made his WHL debut during the 2024-25 season, appearing in four contests.

In 2025-26, the product of Victoria, B.C., was named a finalist for the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy, presented annually to the WHL Rookie of the Year. On three occasions this past season, Cripps was named Sandman WHL Rookie of the Week.

He helped the Raiders claim the WHL’s Eastern Conference Championship, advancing to the 2026 WHL Championship Series. Cripps posted an impressive 21 points (4G-17A) in 20 post-season appearances to boost the Raiders.

Brock England, Seattle Thunderbirds

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound England made his WHL debut during the 2024-25 season, recording three points (2G-1A) in three games with the Thunderbirds. The 2025-26 season saw the product of Red Deer, Alta., collect 51 points (21G-30A) in 64 outings. His 21 goals ranked first among all 16-year-old rookies in the WHL.

Selected by the Thunderbirds in the first round (11th overall) of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, England registered 17 multi-point performances during the 2025-26 season. He was named Sandman WHL Rookie of the Week for the week of November 10-18, 2025. In 67 career WHL regular season games, he has secured 54 points (23G-31A).

Maddox Schultz, Regina Pats

The 5-foot-10, 183-pound Schultz is one of only two 2010-born players on Canada’s roster, joining Pats teammate Liam Pue. Schultz appeared in 34 regular season games with the Pats under the Western Canadian Development Model, and tallied 29 points (15G-14A) during the 2025-26 season.

Selected by the Pats with the first-overall pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, Schultz’s coming out party was arguably February 11, 2026, when he secured his first career WHL hat trick in a thrilling 7-6 overtime win at Saskatoon. In total, Schultz notched seven multi-point performances during the 2025-26 season. He also dressed in two playoff games for the Pats, notching one assist.

Ben Harvey, Prince Albert Raiders

The 5-foot-11, 187-pound Harvey posted 27 points (14G-13A) in 45 games for the Raiders last season, after making his WHL debut with the Club during the 2024-25 campaign. Hailing from Edmonton, Alta., Harvey also helped the Raiders advance to the 2026 WHL Championship Series by adding another six points (4G-2A) in 19 post-season appearances.

Selected by the Raiders in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, Harvey was named Sandman WHL Rookie of the Week for the week of March 9-15. Kayden Stroeder, Edmonton Oil Kings

Selected by the Oil Kings in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, Stroeder debuted during the 2024-25 campaign, appearing in 16 games and securing eight points (5G-3A). Over 71 career WHL regular season outings, the native of Saskatoon, Sask., has 40 points (18G-22A).

Stroeder made his WHL debut December 14, 2024, securing one assist in a 7-3 home win over the Swift Current Broncos. He followed up with his first career WHL goal and a multi-point performance (2G-1A) in a 5-1 road win at Red Deer on December 27, 2024. On March 18, 2026, Stroeder collected his first career WHL hat trick in a 5-1 home win over the Calgary Hitmen.

Liam Pue, Regina Pats

The 6-foot-1, 188-pound Pue is the one of only two 2010-born players on Canada’s roster, joining Pats teammate Maddox Schultz. Pue appeared in 34 regular season games with the Pats under the Western Canadian Development Model, and secured 16 points (6G-10A) during the 2025-26 season.

Selected by the Pats in the first round (third overall) of the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, the product of Langley, B.C., scored one goal in two playoff games for Regina this past spring. He scored his first career WHL goal in his first career WHL game on September 19, 2025, at Swift Current. His first career multi-point performance (1G-1A) came December 5, 2025, on home ice against the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Tommy Lafreniere The Quebec-born, B.C.-raised forward made waves with 41 goals and 36 assists for 77 points in 67 games. Lafreniere, 19, tied for sixth in goals among all WHLers while helping the Kamloops Blazers clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2023. After logging two goals and an assist in the WHL postseason, the 6-foot, 183-pound winger made his professional debut with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors on an amateur tryout and notched a goal and two assists in eight regular-season and playoff games. He's currently representing Canada at the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase in hopes of hitting Edmonton for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship. Edmonton selected Lafreniere with the 83rd overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NHL Draft. David Lewandowski The speedy German import paced the Saskatoon Blades with 65 points (17G-48A) in 57 regular-season matches. Lewandowski, 19, also tied for the team playoff scoring lead as the sixth-seed Blades knocked off the third-seed Edmonton Oil Kings in their first-round series, including the primary assist on Rowan Calvert's Game 7 overtime winner. The 2025 fourth-round NHL pick (117th overall) also got the tap to suit up for the Condors in one game near the end of the AHL's regular season, where he picked up an assist. On the international stage, the 6-foot-2, 176-pound winger tied for third in scoring for Germany at the 2026 World Juniors with a goal and three helpers in five tilts. Aidan Park Twenty-year-old Aidan Park just had a cup of coffee in the WHL, suiting up for three playoff games with the Calgary Hitmen in the 2025 WHL Playoffs. The 6-foot-1, 187-pound forward tallied eight goals and eight assists for 16 points and 28 penalty minutes in 40 games with the University of Michigan in 2025-26. Park, from Hermosa Beach, Calif., left a lasting impression at the 2025 NHL Draft when he rolled up to support his friends and ended up being drafted by Edmonton with the 223rd overall pick in the seventh round, taking the stage in shorts and sandals. James Stefan Laguna Beach, Calif.'s James Stefan spent the bulk of his second professional season with the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets, where he nabbed 34 points (17G-17A) in 38 appearances and earned six games in the AHL with the Condors. The 6-foot, 185-pound winger will look to take a big step forward in 2026-27 as he enters the third year of his entry-level contract. He broke out with a 101-point (50G-51A) run in 2023-24, where he helped the Hawks battle all the way to the 2024 WHL Championship Series. Connor Ungar A wild season saw 24-year-old Connor Ungar suit up for four different teams and work his way up from ECHL third-stringer to surefire AHLer. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound puckstopper was a combined 4-1-1 with the Fort Wayne Komets and Greensboro Gargoyles before landing with the Orlando Solar Bears, where he went 7-8-3 with a 2.66 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage and three shutouts. That was enough to launch him to Bakersfield, where the Calgarian posted a 9-2-2 record, a 2.51 GAA, a .923 save percentage and a shutout. He averaged above a .913 save percentage with all four teams and earned a one-year, two-way deal with the Oilers as a result. He earned his first contract back in 2024 out of Brock University, where he was named the U SPORTS Rookie of the Year. Ungar played five seasons in the Western League with the Brandon Wheat Kings, Red Deer Rebels and Moose Jaw Warriors, stringing together a 53-20-2-3 record, a 2.57 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage and three shutouts.

Broncos sign Finnish forward Oliver Torkki to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement

Swift Current, SK – The Swift Current Broncos have signed 2008-born Finnish forward Oliver Torkki to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

The Broncos selected Torkki with the 67th overall pick in the 2026 CHL Import Draft.

A native of Espoo, Finland, Torkki spent the 2025-26 season with Kiekko-Espoo U20, where he recorded 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points in 23 games. The skilled forward has also represented Finland on the international stage, competing at the 2024 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. During the 2025-26 season, he also appeared in 10 games with Finland's U18 National Team, collecting two assists.

"I am very happy to officially be a part of the Broncos. I am excited for what's ahead and ready to get to work!" said Torkki.

Finnish defenceman Ossi Tukio signs with Pats

Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats announced today that the hockey club has signed defenceman Ossi Tukio to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

Tukio, 18, was selected by the Pats in the first round (18th overall) of the 2026 CHL Import Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 187-pound left-shot defenceman from Tampere, Finland, spent the 2025-26 season captaining Ilves' U20 team in Finland's U20 SM-sarja. Tukio recorded 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists) in 34 regular-season games, helping lead Ilves to a second-place finish while ranking second among all draft-eligible defencemen in league scoring.

Hockey has been a part of Tukio's life from the very beginning. He grew up around professional dressing rooms as the son of former Finnish defenceman Arto Tukio, who enjoyed a lengthy professional career spanning nearly two decades. Arto appeared in approximately 500 games across Finland's Liiga while also spending time with Jokerit and Ilves before playing two seasons with Frölunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), where he captured a Swedish championship in 2005. A fourth-round selection (101st overall) of the New York Islanders in the 2000 NHL Draft, Arto remained in Europe throughout his professional career.

"We're very excited to sign Ossi to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement," said Pats General Manager Dale Derkatch. "He is a defenceman with strong offensive instincts who likes to join the rush and create scoring opportunities for both himself and his teammates.
