Thunderbirds, Silvertips to face off in fourth annual Battle of the Sound
Kent, Wash.- Thirty-five years after the Seattle Thunderbirds first played under the historic roof of Climate Pledge Arena, the team will hit the ice again as part of the fourth annual Battle of the Sound.
This year’s edition will see the Thunderbirds host the Everett Silvertips on Friday, December 27.
“This will now be the fourth annual Battle of the Sound and the second against the Everett Silvertips,” Thunderbirds President, Colin Campbell said. “We are continuously grateful for the opportunity provided by the Seattle Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena to host another game against our I-5 rivals. This game provides a great opportunity for fans to gather and watch the future of the NHL.”
Seattle has an all-time record of 2-1 at the event, with Everett winning the inaugural Battle of the Sound 4-0 on February 26, 2022.
The Thunderbirds defeated Spokane 7-5 on December 27, 2022, and the Portland Winterhawks 5-4 in overtime on March 17, 2024.
Newly-signed Buffalo Sabres prospect Scott Ratzlaff and Vancouver Canucks prospect Sawyer Mynio are set to become the only players to take part in all four editions of the match.
Ratzlaff was named first star in last season’s tilt against Portland with 52 saves, while Mynio scored the game-winning goal in overtime and picked up two assists.
The Battle of the Sound games are part of a proud partnership between the Thunderbirds, Seattle Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena geared at growing hockey in the Puget Sound region and across the state.
This season’s match also features Seattle Kraken prospects Julius Miettinen and Kaden Hammell, as well as fellow NHL draft picks Eric Jamieson (Calgary Flames) and Tarin Smith (Anaheim Ducks).
Ticket sales will open to the public on Thursday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m. PST.
