Wilson, Kinniburgh trade places in swap between Warriors & Royals
The Moose Jaw Warriors and Victoria Royals came together for a trade that saw 2005-born defenceman Cosmo Wilson headed to Vancouver Island, while 2006-born forward Deegan Kinniburgh makes his way to the Friendly City.
The Royals acquired Wilson and a ninth-round pick (2026) in exchange for Kinniburgh, a fourth-round pick (2025) and a sixth-round pick (2026).
“Cosmo played an important role for Moose Jaw down the stretch en route to a WHL Championship and Memorial Cup appearance,” said Jake Heisinger, General Manager of the Victoria Royals. “Being able to add a player that brings Championship experience to our group will be very beneficial both on and off the ice.”
Wilson has spent parts of the past three seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors where he appeared in 121 regular season WHL games, scoring three goals and 19 points. The product of Vernon, B.C., who stands at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, was part of the Moose Jaw Warriors team that won the Ed Chynoweth Cup 2024. Wilson was selected by the Warriors in the seventh round (136th overall) of the 2020 WHL Draft.
“We would like to thank Cosmo for his contributions on and off the ice over the last four years,” said Jason Ripplinger, General Manager of the Warriors. “He was a big part of the organization winning the WHL championship. We wish Cosmo all the best in his hockey future.”
Kinniburgh, a six-foot, 170-pound left winger, had five goals and 13 points in 65 games last season with the Royals – his first full season in the Western Hockey League.
In 2022-23 with the Lethbridge Hurricanes U18 AAA team, Kinniburgh led the team in scoring with 24 goals and 56 points in 33 games.
“Adding Deegan will add more depth to our ’06 age group as we build for the future,” Ripplinger said.
Kinniburgh appeared in 75 WHL regular season games with the Royals over the past two seasons, where he scored five goals and 13 points. Kinniburgh was drafted by the Royals in the ninth round (197th overall) in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.
The Royals would like to thank Deegan for his contributions on the ice and in the community, and wish him well in Moose Jaw.
