WHL Tonight: Thunderbirds double up Hitmen in rare Monday matchup
Seattle Thunderbirds at Calgary Hitmen – Scoring & Highlights
All the Seattle Thunderbirds needed was two goals to earn two points Monday in Calgary.
Goals in the opening three minutes by captain Matthew Wedman (Florida Panthers) and Keltie Jeri-Leon was enough offence for Roddy Ross (Philadelphia Flyers) in a 2-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen. Layne Toder scored midway through the second period to put the home side on the board, but that’s as close as they’d come in the contest.
Michael Horon, Henrik Rybinski (Florida Panthers), Luke Bateman, and Sam Popowich all picked up a helper for Seattle. The assist for Popowich was the first point of his WHL career.
Ross was the star of the game, stopping 33 of the 34 shots sent his way. He made 13 saves in the first, 11 in the second, and eight in the third.
Hunter Campbell and Blake Allan each had an assist for the Hitmen. Brayden Peters stopped 26 of 28 shots in the narrow loss.
