TOP PERFORMER- APRIL 23
Jackson Unger kicked off his Round Two series against the Hitmen with a 33-save shutout in his hometown and ended it with a masterful 34-save effort to send Lethbridge to the Conference Championship for the first time since 2018. The 2024 WHL Champion weathered a 19-shot final period as the Hitmen peppered him with all kinds of shots, including a pair of tight chances from Ethan Merner and Aidan Park. Unger, 20, also held Calgary scoreless on three powerplays- highlighted by a 4:00 double minor in the final period. Unger is now 8-2-2-0 in the 2025 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien with a 2.38 goals-against average, a .918 save percentage and one shutout. He holds the third-best GAA and sixth-best save percentage among all WHL netminders in the postseason.
RESULTS
Lethbridge 3, Calgary 1
Lethbridge wins 4-3
Brayden Edwards was the conductor of the Cane train on Wednesday night. Lethbridge’s alternate captain was in on all three of his team’s goals, and kicked off the scoring early in the first period by frantically swatting in a loose puck off of a scrambled play in front of the Calgary net. Fellow ‘A’ Logan Wormald, who was fresh off of a two-goal outing in Calgary in Game 5, picked up the series-clinching goal by converting a slick Edwards pass on a two-on-one break, and Luke Cozens rounded out the scoring with a sensational backhander in tight against Anders Miller. Hitmen alternate captain David Adaszynski, 2025 NHL Draft-eligible Ben Kindel and WHL Player of the Year nominee Oliver Tulk combined for Calgary’s lone goal.
