WHL Internship Opportunity: Communications
With 22 Member Clubs throughout Western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest, the Western Hockey League (WHL) is regarded as the world’s finest development league for junior hockey players. The WHL is inviting applications for the position of Communications Intern at the Calgary based WHL Office.
The Communications Intern will provide support to all aspects of WHL Communications. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and team player who understands the importance of the WHL brand, has a passion for the WHL and a love for creating dynamic content for web and social media platforms.
Candidates should be students or recent graduates of Communications, Journalism or Graphic Design looking to gain experience in the hockey industry. The successful candidate will also possess an understanding of WordPress (or similar CMS). Knowledge of any programs within the Adobe Creative Cloud family is considered an asset.
Candidates should be ready and willing to think outside the box and possess strong creative skills in addition to being well-organized with a strong attention to detail.

Attributes:
- Outgoing personality and enthusiastic attitude
- Detail oriented and organized
- Ability to take direction, work independently and work in a group environment
- Comfortable working on multiple projects with tight deadlines, in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Graphic Design, Communications or Journalism majors preferred
- Proficient in the following programs or systems would be an asset: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Flash, WordPress
- Hockey knowledge considered an asset
Term: September 2019 to May 31, 2020 (Flexible with dates)
Reports to: Senior Manager, Communications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support Communications department with production of content and features
- Compile web and social media analytic reports highlighting effective content and trends
- Generation of content for WHL.ca & WHL social media channels
- Assist with implementation of WHL season content plan
- Research projects, as required
- WHL events support, as required
- WHL reception services
