Wheat Kings add NHL Draft-eligible Mistelbacher, Burzynski in swap with Swift Current
Brandon, Man.- The Manitoba Missile is heading back to his home province.
The Wheat Kings are bringing in sniper Luke Mistelbacher and veteran blueliner Grayson Burzynski after a WHL Draft Day trade with the Swift Current Broncos.
Swift Current acquires a first and second-round pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, a third-round pick in 2027 and 2028, a sixth-round selection in 2028, and the rights to 2009-born forward Alex Letourneau.
“These players are available and we owe it to the kids and to our fanbase to really put our best foot forward and try to make a statement this year,” Wheat Kings General Manager and Head Coach Marty Murray said.
Mistelbacher erupted for 42 goals (including three hat tricks and a four-goal showing) and 51 assists for 93 points in 67 games with the Broncos in 2024-25.
The Steinbach, Man. product paced the Broncos in points and goals, while ranking fourth among all skaters in goals, eighth in points, and scoring the third-most game-winning goals (eight).
The 6-foot, 167-pound left winger recently signed an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) with the AHL’s Iowa Wild and scored his first professional goal while suiting up for two games with the Minnesota Wild affiliate.
He’s scored 68 goals and 94 assists for 162 points in 190 regular-season games over parts of four seasons in Speedy Creek.
Mistelbacher, 19, is eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft and is ranked 93rd among all North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting in the agency’s final rankings for 2025.
Rolling onto the Brandon blueline is 6-foot-4, 211-pound Grayson Burzynski.
The 19-year-old picked up 11 goals and 36 assists for 47 points in 62 tilts, ranking 19th among all defencemen in points.
Burzynski is a veteran of 233 regular-season games since being chosen by the Broncos in the second round of the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.
The Winnipeg, Man. product has 21 career regular-season goals and 57 assists for 78 points.
He’s ranked 191st among all North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
Both players had a key role in helping Swift Current return to the postseason in 2024 for the first time since winning the WHL Championship in 2018.
