Western Conference wins 1997 Cavanaugh’s WHL All-Star Game
The Cavanaugh’s WHL All – Star Game, presented by G&B Selectaseat and airBC, was held in Spokane on January 22, 1997.
The Eastern Conference All – Star Team, which was coached by Parry Shockey of the Lethbridge Hurricanes, had five players from Brandon, four players from Red Deer, and three players each from Lethbridge and Regina.
The Western Conference All – Star Team, which was co-coached by Brent Peterson of the Portland Winter Hawks and Mike Babcock of the Spokane Chiefs, had five members of Portland and Spokane and four players from the Seattle Thunderbirds.
The Western Conference defeated the Eastern Conference by the score of 7 – 5. Patrick Marleau, Trent Whitfield, and John Cirjak all scored twice for the Western Conference. Matrin Cerven also scored for the Western Confernece while Sergei Varlamov, Shane Willis, Chris Phillips, Peter Schaefer and Stefan Cherneseski replied for the Eastern Conference. The players of the game were Tyler Willis of the Seattle Thunderbirds for the Western Conference and Chris Phillip of the Prince Albert Raiders for the Eastern Conference.
