Warriors forward Firkus added to Canada’s roster for 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship

Moose Jaw Warriors forward Jagger Firkus has been added to Canada’s roster for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Hockey Canada announced the addition of the Seattle Kraken prospect Saturday afternoon.

The 19-year-old Firkus, a product of Irma, Alta., sits among the WHL leaders in all major offensive categories, including fourth in points (59), tied for third in goals (27), tied for third in shorthanded goals (3), tied for third in game-winning goals (5) and tied for third in plus-minus rating (plus-25).

“It’s an exciting day for Jagger and the Warriors organization,” said Jason Ripplinger, General Manager of the Warriors. “We wish Jagger all the best of luck as he represents his country.”

Firkus joins Warriors teammates Denton Mateychuk and Brayden Yager in search of gold at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden.

With the addition of Firkus, the WHL now boasts eight players on Canada’s roster for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, including Matthew Savoie (Wenatchee Wild), Yager, Fraser Minten (Saskatoon Blades), Scott Ratzlaff (Seattle Thunderbirds), Mateychuk, Conor Geekie (Wenatchee Wild), and Nate Danielson (Brandon Wheat Kings).

Saskatoon Blades defenceman Tanner Molendyk had previously been named to Canada’s roster, but was unable to participate due to injury.

A second-round pick of the Seattle Kraken (35th overall), Firkus has collected 243 points (110G-133A) in 199 career WHL Regular Season games.

He was selected by the Warriors in the fourth round (82nd overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft.

Firkus and Canada return to action Sunday, December 31 (11:30 a.m. MT) when they take on Germany to close out preliminary action at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship.
